MATLAB support package available for Digilent's Analog Discovery Design Kit

Digilent, Inc. announces the availability of the MATLAB Support Package for Digilent Analog Discovery hardware

(PresseBox) (Pullman, )
Digilent, Inc. announces the availability of the MATLAB Support Package for Digilent Analog Discovery hardware. With the Data Acquisition Toolbox Support Package for Digilent Analog Discovery hardware available as part of MATLAB R2013a, the user may now test his circuit performance with the Digilent Analog Discovery and send the generated data to MATLAB for numerical computation, visualization and programming. Together, MATLAB and the Analog Discovery Design Kit will give the user the ability to generate and manipulate data, as well as interactively utilize the collected data.

The MATLAB Support Package allows professors, students and researchers to perform a variety of tasks in MATLAB, including:
  • reading data from the dual-channel oscilloscope (analog input);
  • controlling and generating data from the dual-channel waveform generator (analog output);
  • characterizing ICs and measuring circuit and IC component behavior;
  • configuring the sampling rate of the Analog Discovery device;
  • triggering the start of your data acquisition;
  • displaying Digilent Analog Discovery device settings.
The Analog Discovery, a USB powered test and measurement device, combines a dual-channel oscilloscope, a dual-channel waveform generator, a 16-channel logic analyzer, and many other instruments in a single low-cost device.

MATLAB is a high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization, and programming. With MATLAB, you can acquire and analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models and applications. The language, tools, and built-in math functions enable you to explore multiple approaches and reach a solution faster than with spreadsheets or traditional programming languages such as C/C++ or Java.

Clint Cole, the founder of Digilent Inc., identifies why the Analog Discovery is so important: "The Analog Discovery gives engineering educators and students a powerful new tool - students can build and test real circuits as a part of every single assignment and they can work at home as well as in the lab".

According to Eric Wetjen, Product Manager for Test and Measurement at MathWorks, "the integration of MATLAB and Analog Discovery is a great solution for educators looking to provide a portable hands-on learning experience for their students because it enables the students to not only deepen their understanding of the circuits they design but also reinforce their MATLAB skills".
