OF INDIA OPERATIONS
Sandeep Dhar to Further Expand Sapient’s Globally Distributed Delivery Operations in India
CAMBRIDGE, MA — August 24, 2007 — Sapient (NASDAQ: SAPE) today announced that it has appointed Sandeep Dhar as managing director of its India operations. Dhar, a seasoned services industry executive, will oversee the company’s continued growth in India, reporting directly to Sapient Chief Executive Officer Alan J. Herrick.
Sapient launched its India operation in 2000 and now has over 3,000 professionals in its Delhi and Bangalore offices. Sapient’s Indian operations is a key component of the company’s renowned Global Distributed Delivery (GDD) model which supports clients in both North America and Europe. The GDD model helps clients achieve improved return on investment on a wide variety of engagements across the Sapient Interactive and Sapient Consulting service groups.
Dhar will succeed Soumya Banerjee, who after spending seven years with Sapient in India, will return to Sapient’s North American headquarters and focus on strategic client engagements.
“Our Indian operations realized tremendous success under Soumya’s leadership. During his tenure, Sapient India grew to over 3,000 people, evolved our GDD model and won consistent recognition as one of the best places to work in India,” said Herrick.
According to Herrick, Dhar’s appointment will further accelerate the impressive expansion of Sapient’s Indian operations. “With Sandeep on board, we are well positioned to further strengthen and expand our India-based capabilities. Sandeep brings a proven record of success in scaling large organizations in the Indian market. We are very excited to have him join the Sapient leadership team.”
Prior to joining Sapient, Dhar served as president of the business process outsourcing business for Mphasis, a subsidiary of EDS. Under his leadership, the business unit scaled up from 3,000 people to almost to 10,000 people in just over three years.
In addition, Dhar has an extensive background in consulting, sales and financial services. After beginning his career as a sales executive with NIIT, he spent eight years with Citibank, holding several senior positions in the CRM, e-commerce and banking infrastructure departments, in India and in the Asia-Pacific regional office. In his most recent assignment with Citibank, he played a key role in the company’s global pilot for remote banking, completing groundbreaking work in electronic distribution channels in India. He subsequently worked in IBM’s CRM practice and at ABN AMRO Bank in Singapore as the vice president of alternative channels and CRM.
Dhar is a graduate of Delhi University in India and the Institute of Management Technology in Ghaziabad, India. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton Business School.
