By using a backlight system - based on highly luminescent white LEDs - an additional inverter circuit is not necessary. As a result, power consumption of the standard model NL6448BC18-01 (brightness 400 cd/m2) is reduced to 1.8 W and in the high-luminance version NL6448BC18-01F (800 cd/m2) to 3.3 W.
Moreover, the LCD modules feature a comparatively high density of 140 pixels per inch, a wide horizontal as well as vertical viewing angle of 160 degrees, a high contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a fast response time of 18 ms.
Furthermore, the special way that the LEDs are arranged results in a significant reduction of the risk of damage due to exposure to shock or vibration. In addition, LCD modules with backlight systems based on white LEDs are thinner, lighter and more reliable than CCFL LCD modules.
A wide operating temperature range, from -20°C to +70°C, guarantees operation even in the most extreme conditions. Data sheets of the 5.7-inch LCD modules, NL6448BC18-01 and NL6448BC18-01F, are available now. Engineering samples are expected to be available from October 2008 and volume production will begin in November 2008.
