Noise Monitoring for Environment, Traffic and Industry - Acoustic Measurement Technology Made in Gefell at the Jena Acoustics Day 2023

The focus of the top-class interdisciplinary conference was the measurement of noise, the effects of noise and noise reduction or noise avoidance.

In lectures and presentations, the focal points of sound emission, sound propagation, noise effects and noise reduction were considered in concrete practical contexts.

In keeping with the conference motto "Do it quietly", MTG presented a wide range of measurement solutions for noise monitoring in the fields of environment, traffic as well as R&D and industry.

In today's age of high environmental awareness, accurate noise measurement is of crucial importance.

Following the growing demands for noise protection, MTG developed a series of precision measurement microphones with weather protection for temporary and permanent installations with approval for official calibration for legally binding measurements.

Building on a wealth of experience in acoustic measurement technology and noise measuring of more than 85 years, MTG manufactures e.g. high-end microphones for aircraft noise monitoring systems for vertical sound incidence measurement as well as for noise monitoring, such as traffic noise, with horizontal sound incidence with respect to the microphone axis.

The Boundary layer basic unit GF 1 with the weatherproof power supply WN 1 and the optimised Sound Power Hemispheres also met with lively interest.

The GF1 is on the one hand a measuring system for the registration of sound emissions at wind power plants according to IEC/EN 61400-11 and, on the other hand, it can be used for the determination of emission-relevant sound power levels in the open air, e.g. for measurements at power plants, construction sites or filter and cooling plants.

Due to the operation close to the ground, undesired influences on the measurement results caused by reflections from the ground are avoided. The measurements are largely independent of the measurement location and the condition of the ground.

The sound power hemispheres SLH, designed as an "all for one" solution for a variety of measurement tasks, are among others a contribution to ensure the legal requirements for sound emission of industrial and consumer equipment and more.

Internationally, manufacturers of all sound-emitting industrial and consumer equipment are increasingly required by law to record and comply with the entire chain of sound emissions relevant to humans and the environment.

However, noise reduction is only one side of the coin. Product sound design for industrial products is equally important for comfort, well-being and, above all, safety.

Thus, consumer-oriented sound design is becoming increasingly important in product development, for example, in the design of corporate and branded product sounds in the field of e-mobility in the automotive sector.

The Sound Power Hemispheres are available in two different sizes for setting up hemispherical microphone arrays with radii of one or two meters for up to 20 microphone positions each. Depending on the measurement task, the sound power hemispheres can be equipped with standard measurement microphones, particularly low-noise measurement microphones or measurement microphones for harsh environments, whereby the user can use MTG microphones as well as suitable sensors from other manufacturers.
