Touring Assurances, an AXA Group Company, deploys ILOG JRules for automated underwriting

ILOG Business Rules Management System Delivers Speed to Market Gains of Over 50%

(PresseBox) (Paris, )
ILOG® (NASDAQ: ILOG; Euronext: ILO, ISIN: FR0004042364) today announced that Belgium insurance company, Touring Assurances, part of the AXA Group, has deployed ILOG JRules® for its new automated underwriting system which is based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach. Using the ILOG BRMS, Touring Assurances is able to create flexible eligibility, risk classification and pricing tiers, while streamlining the underwriting process. With the new BRMS-based underwriting system, the carrier has achieved significant speed to market gains by being able to launch a new offer within 10 days from what used to take 1 month. Moreover, they are able to implement rule changes within 3 days from what used to take approximately 2 weeks.

Touring Assurances is the second largest direct insurance company in Belgium for personal lines. The carrier sells three types of coverages to consumers - automobile, motorcycle, home owners - and serves 100,000 policy holders.

As part of its SOA strategy, Touring Assurances wanted to steer away from maintaining business rules in multiple locations such as legacy systems, excel spreadsheets and databases which contributed to lengthy implementation cycles and higher costs. Moreover, they wanted to extend rule management capabilities to their business users. Using ILOG JRules, the carrier is able to centrally store and manage all business rules governing the underwriting process. Business rules are exposed as decision services within the SOA, delivering greater flexibility, speed, transparency and auditability. ILOG BRMS is running on IBM Websphere application server and provides deep integration with the SOA platform.

With the new BRMS-based automated underwriting system, Touring Assurances is able to deliver quotes faster and achieved a higher pass-through-rate whereby 80% of incoming policy requests on the web go directly through the system without any human intervention. Advanced rule management features inherent in ILOG BRMS allows the carrier to better align its IT objectives with business strategies by empowering business users with the ability to easily create and maintain business rules across multiple product lines and geographies.

“Using ILOG JRules means that rules can be created and modified much more quickly and our business users can now fully understand the rules,” said Nathalie Servranckx, Touring Assurances IT Manager. “This allows them to reflect the needs of the business faster and more accurately. We have also developed a true partnership with ILOG and have been impressed by both the speed and quality of the project implementation done by ILOG Professional Services team who managed to complete the implementation within the tight three months timescale.”

ILOG has consistently built on its history of product innovation to make it one of the industry’s leading provider of business rule management system software. Forrester Research has recognized ILOG as a rules platform market leader, including the leader in rules platforms for Java. Customers of ILOG’s award-winning BRMS products include eBay, Equifax, Grupo Santander, Harrah’s Entertainment, Visa, Vodafone, Zurich, and many other leading Global 2000 companies and governments worldwide.
