Accurate torque measuring for higher torques

KTR will introduce a new development on the occasion of the SPS IPC Drives 2013

(PresseBox) (Rheine, ) Having developed the torque sensors DATAFLEX® 16, KTR has made direct torque measuring interesting again for the operators of small and low-cost test benches. The drive specialist from Rheine has recently extended its range of precision measuring shafts for average torques by the series DATAFLEX® 32. The new size is available in three measuring ranges covering torques up to 100, 300 and 500 Nm. KTR will introduce the new development on the occasion of this year's SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg.

The measuring principle is based on the approved technology of wire strain gauges assuring very high process stability. With a sampling rate of 10 kHz, DATAFLEX® 32 provides for a very high measuring frequency, in this way allowing to measure dangerous torque peaks of highly dynamic drives. Such loads need to be recognized and prevented early in order to avoid sudden failures in the overall drive system. DATAFLEX® 32 creates the respective precondition.

The torque signals are transmitted without contact. The internal data transmission is proceeded digitally at a resolution of 24 bit allowing torque measuring with an inaccuracy of less than 0.1 % of the measuring range. Apart from that it is characterized by a low-noise signal. In addition the measuring shaft has a speed encoder providing two offset signals with a resolution of 720 pulses per revolution. The actual speed output is part of the standard and does not require an extra charge. The rotating components are supplied with current via inductive energy transmission.

DATAFLEX® 32 is supplied along with the connection housing DF02 which is another new product of the company KTR and which has a scalable frequency voltage converter. In this way the information on speed is not only available as a pulse signal, but at the same time as direct current voltage with an extra direction signal. As a result both digital display units and measuring cards with analog inputs can be used with no need to buy any additional components.

For an integration in the drive train KTR would recommend to combine DATAFLEX® 32 with the torsionally stiff servo lamina coupling RADEX®-NC, specifically for the use on those drives with dynamic torque peaks. Apart from that it can be combined with the backlash-free ROTEX® GS shaft coupling. Its ability for plug-in saves time with all those applications where components need to be regularly replaced.

Subject to the high demand from the part of customers KTR's engineers are already working on the development of the next bigger series.

The new torque measuring system will be presented on the occasion of the SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg, hall 3, booth 269.
