Imtech: 50 million euro in orders for mobility improvements in The Netherlands and the UK

(PresseBox) (Gouda, ) Imtech (technical services provider in Europe) has been awarded assignments in The Netherlands and the UK worth more than 50 million euro for projects that contribute substantially to efficient and sustainable traffic mobility. The work concerns providing dynamic traffic signals, the technological renovation of a traffic centre and laying a hightech communication system the length of a motorway.

René van der Bruggen, CEO of Imtech: 'Traffic mobility is a hot issue in Europe. Technology is an important driver for further improvements to mobility, as well as enabling cuts in damaging emissions. Imtech holds a strong position in the European market for traffic technology. These new orders provide the proof that we continue to develop and that we deliver increasing added value in strategic areas, such as (dynamic) traffic control, traffic monitoring and traffic information. These orders contribute greatly to our longterm continuity.

Rotterdam's 'diamond' ring way: dynamic traffic signals and control

Due to its geographical position, the Dutch A13, A16 and A20 motorways are sometimes communally referred to as Rotterdam's diamond. All the existing traffic components and the overground technical infrastructure are in need of replacement. This is the perfect moment for the Ministry of Waterways and Public Works to apply new specifications at the same time, whereby dynamic traffic signals and control will be made possible. In a very short period of time and with as little hindrance to the traffic as possible, Imtech will replace all substations and signal providers in one of the busiest areas of The Netherlands. By the end of October 2010, work on the A20 will be completed and, by the end of November 2010, so will the work on the A13 and the A16.

Technological renovation traffic centre northwest region of The Netherlands

Imtech has acquired the contract from the Ministry of Waterways and Public Works (Rijkswaterstaat) for the renovation of the traffic centre in the northwest region of the Netherlands. The challenge lies in the stipulation that neither the traffic nor the personnel serving the centre may experience any hindrance from this technological renovation. A temporary solution will be provided so that a flawless transition can be achieved, including providing a power station that will guarantee an independent emergency power supply.

Vital communication on M6 motorway in the UK

In the UK Imtech has been assigned by the Highways Agency to be responsible for the installation of a hightech communications network along the 64 kilometre length of the M6 motorway. The project comprises the realisation of the housing of this technology, as well as the coordination and communication with relevant authorities and inhabitants in the surrounding areas.

Imtech's increasing role as technology partner in questions of mobility

To an increasing extent, specific technology is required to comply with the strictest standards in efficiency, sustainability and safety. Imtech is increasingly being invited to work as expert partner in technology, one that can offer added value. An order that was also recently awarded to Imtech is to provide a combined camera, marine telephone and radar system, making it possible to provide reliable guidance for shipping through the Dutch ports and rivers and which also contributes to the modernisation of maritime traffic centres. Moreover, in the Overijssel province in The Netherlands a Dynamic Travellers Information System is being realised that will enable travellers, by means of digital displays, to view not only schedules of the relevant transport company, but also dynamic travel information with actual arrival and departure times. Furthermore, Imtech will carry out the technological maintenance work in eight traffic tunnels in the province of South-Holland, on assignment from the Ministry of Waterways and Public Works.
