Riyadh, the capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is currently implementing the world's largest public transport project. It involves the construction of six lines of a fully automatic, driverless metro system. The TERBERG/ZAGRO rescue vehicles will ensure the rapid rescue operation and maintenance of the 175 kilometre long rail infrastructure. The first two road rail vehicles were delivered to Metro Riyadh.
Each rescue vehicle is equipped with body box superstructures for the rescue of damaged trains or maintenance work. Its high tractive capacity is combined with rescue equipment. The body box comprises a crew cabin for four people and a tool cabin for the storage of hydraulic devices and rescue tools. Thanks to its coupling system with electrical height adjustment the tractor can be connected to the damaged train. So the train can be towed safely to the depot, and the metro section is free for operation. Of course, the road rail vehicles are specifically adapted to the climate conditions in Saudi Arabia.
