Valmet Automotive's Sustainability Report 2021: significant achievements pave the way for future successes

(PresseBox) (Munich, )
Valmet Automotive has today published the Group’s Sustainability Report for 2021. In the past year, sustainability became an even more essential factor in all company activities, a fact underscored by the continuation of the sustainability strategy and several measures aligned with it. The report presents the main themes, strategic priorities and 2021 highlights.

The importance of sustainability is constantly increasing and Valmet Automotive has taken a leading role in implementing climate protection measures within the automotive industry. As a proof of this, Valmet Automotive was certified climate neutral in all its operations by the renowned Norwegian classification society DNV as of January 1, 2022.

The positive impact of Valmet Automotive's measures is further demonstrated by CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), the gold standard of global environmental reporting. While Valmet Automotive’s rating in 2020 was D (scale A-D), in 2021 CDP gave the company Score B. This level was achieved years ahead of original schedule.

Valmet Automotive’s concrete sustainability measures in 2021 included a cooperation agreement with a Finnish energy company on recycling of batteries and side streams from battery production, the conversion of the energy supply to renewable electricity at the Salo, Osnabrück and Zary sites, and increased efforts to promote sustainability in the supply chains.

The level of employee identification with Valmet Automotive's corporate culture is underscored by the annually conducted Pulse Check employee survey. In 2021, the survey yielded 73% agreement that both the employees themselves and the company comply with the 5 Commitments, which form the basis of the corporate culture. This is clearly visible for example in the highly disciplined manner of employees have followed the corona restrictions. Despite the challenging situation, there were no infection chains at Valmet Automotive sites.

The presented measures and achievements are based on Valmet Automotive’s sustainability strategy work, completed in 2021 and currently extended. With the strategy, the company aims to take its place as the key player in a transforming business environment, innovating new solutions to contribute to the shift towards a zero-emission society.
  • At Valmet Automotive, the sustainability strategy especially addresses environmental protection but also social topics and corporate governance. We are strongly committed to our sustainability targets and will work enthusiastically developing Valmet Automotive into a leading eco-friendly company, says Olaf Bongwald, CEO, Valmet Automotive.
