TÜV Rheinland: Conformity and approval of smart home products

Complex regulations depending on the respective market / Adaptation of norms and standards depending on technology development / Specialist webinars on the approval of smart home products / Innovations in connection with Brexit

(PresseBox) (Cologne, )
The market for household appliances, AV/IT products, lights and other devices for everyday use has changed dramatically in recent years. For example, there are now many robots that do the work for their owners and take care of numerous household chores, even at affordable prices. And the market is growing. Robotic hoovers have long been part of the range. They are joined by intelligent mops, lawnmowers and window cleaners. Lamps, washing machines and refrigerators have also become smart appliances that can be controlled via app.

"To be successful in the market from a manufacturer's point of view, smart home products must be easy for consumers to connect and operate. Because users want intuitive operation. In addition, the devices should not only function in a special smart home system, but should be able to communicate with each other in different ecosystems," says Sajid Mohammed, Department Manager Europe for Wireless and IoT at TÜV Rheinland. Topics such as data protection and data security are also the focus of product development and product use when it comes to smart home products. With regard to the market approval of smart home products, complex regulations and standards apply - depending on the respective target country. Different regulatory, interoperability, performance, safety and security standards are not infrequently a challenge on the part of manufacturers and can cause not inconsiderable delays in market introduction," Mohammed continues.

One-stop-shop service provider for wireless communication technologies

As a leading global testing service provider, TÜV Rheinland offers its wireless customers end-to-end solutions that provide all regulatory and technological testing and certification of their products from a single source, enabling manufacturers to seamlessly enter the market globally, including smart home products. For this purpose, state-of-the-art wireless/IoT laboratories and experienced experts are available worldwide at TÜV Rheinland. "In our video we have summarised the biggest challenges for manufacturers in terms of compliance and approval of smart home products. And we show how we can effectively support manufacturers in this process with our portfolio," explains wireless expert Mohammed.

TÜV Rheinland experts also regularly provide information on current developments in the wireless sector in special webinars. The next wireless webinar on the topics of compliance and approval of smart home products including all important developments in connection with Brexit (UKCA and UKNI) will take place on 1 June under the direction of TÜV Rheinland expert Sajid Mohammed.
