ThyssenKrupp consolidates its presence in Qatar

(PresseBox) (Essen, )
Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha is the latest Qatari project in which the company has participated, in addition to other major projects such as the Tornado Tower. A total of 385 ThyssenKrupp elevators, escalators, and moving walks will comfortably transport passengers through the facilities of the newly inaugurated airport.

One of the world's newest international hubs, HIA is located just four kilometres away from the current Doha International Airport, and covers an area of 2,200 hectares, more than half of which has been reclaimed from the sea. The airport combines cutting-edge architectural design with the most advanced technological systems, and currently has three terminals with an initial capacity of 30 million passengers a year. The facilities will accommodate 50 million passengers and 320,000 take-offs and landings when it is fully operational with a total of five terminals. When complete, the airport's current 41 boarding gates will increase to 65, with six gates only serving the Airbus A380 fleet. Ramón Sotomayor, CEO of ThyssenKrupp Elevator SEAME, explains that, "With its revolutionary products and extensive global expertise, ThyssenKrupp Elevator's presence in HIA and beyond is poised to put Qatar on the map for technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable mobility technologies".

All the ThyssenKrupp units installed in this airport complex, including elevators with high-end car finishes and freight elevators of over 5 tons, are controlled around the clock through a central monitoring system. After several years in the works, this project is now successfully under maintenance, thus consolidating ThyssenKrupp Elevator's presence in Qatar. The company has been operating here since 2007, and specializes in providing elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and accessibility solutions, backed by a strong local team of internationally experienced professionals.

Efficient solutions from ThyssenKrupp Elevator set standards in Qatar - and worldwide

The company has already successfully completed several projects in Qatar, including the installation of its TWIN elevator systems in the multi-purpose Al Sultan Tower, as well as projects at Lusail Car Park and Tornado Tower. Keeping in mind the importance of sustainability in new developments, ThyssenKrupp has been developing transport technologies that are especially relevant for the challenges of rapid urbanization. With mid to high-rise buildings proven to be the most environmentally protective and cost-effective types of construction in high-density areas, and buildings responsible for 40% of the world's energy consumption, new elevator technologies have a significant contribution to make as they are capable of energy savings by up to 27%, while increasing usable floor space by up to 30%.

Efficient mobility in buildings in burgeoning cities is not a luxury but an absolute necessity, as any megacity would be paralysed if its elevators suddenly stopped moving. Revolutionary technologies, such as ThyssenKrupp TWIN elevators, with two cabins operating in the same shaft across different floors, increase overall efficiency and transit times, while reducing the number of elevators required as well as the floor space occupied. In some cases, such as ThyssenKrupp's elevators in the One World Trade Center in New York, elevators are a key element contributing to energy self-sufficiency through the use of regenerative drives. These drives use energy created when the cabins slow down (converted into electricity and fed back into to the building's power grid), thus reducing a building's energy needs by approximately 30%. Products such as moving walks that start operating only when a passenger approaches, intelligent destination selection control systems, and elevators that provide access only to authorised personnel, are also an integral part of incorporating energy efficiency and security into mobility solutions for high-density areas.
