The Thomson ST780 DeXtenTion is a complete VoIP broadband gateway, supporting all variants of ADSL, up to ADSL2+, offering four Ethernet connections and a IEE802.11b/g wireless access point. The wireless access point is protected by both Wireless Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and WiFi Protected Access (WPA) encryption and user access control. Further security is provided by advanced firewall and intrusion detection features protecting the user from malicious content and Internet-based attacks. As telecoms providers move towards a VoIP model, the Thomson ST780 DeXtenTion is designed to provide for multiple Internet telephony scenarios. With connections for standard analogue telephones (2 FXS ports and 1 FXO), the gateway supports two wired VoIP lines with a fall back connection back to the analogue telephone network.
With the USB DECT Dongle, the Thomson ST780 DeXtenTion supports DECT phones from multiple manufacturers - up to 5 DECT phones can be connected - as well as Thomson’s newly launched Versatis 1590 DECT IP phone. The ST780 DeXtenTion enables operators to further extend their service offering to include not only HD Sound but also additional services, such as address book synchronization, remote control, e-mail notification and push services such as traffic information, weather forecasts or news. There’s no need to change the hardware, users only need to plug the USB DECT Dongle in the USB master port to benefit from these new services. The USB master can also be used for printer sharing or connecting other USB devices such as external hard drives.
With broadband user numbers growing rapidly, the Thomson ST780 DeXtenTion supports a number of key remote management standards that simplify the process of customer deployments: The TR-69 protocol allows operators to automatically activate and configure or update the gateway in order to deploy new services easily and efficiently. It is extended by the TR-104 protocol for VoIP services. Finally, the TR-37 protocol enables auto-configuration of network bandwidth according to service needs.
“The USB DECT dongle plugged into the gateway’s USB master port is a unique and future proof concept provided by Thomson to its service provider client base, enabling them to provide their users with additional services. As a result of its versatility and manageability, the ST780 DeXtenTion addresses the needs of the most demanding residential users, as well as the needs of small businesses and home offices” explained Bruno Fabre, vice president in charge of Telecom activities at Thomson.
