Different types of mining

(PresseBox) (Herisau, )
The history of mining is thousands of years old. From ancient times to the present day, a lot has happened in terms of exploitation methods.

There are different types of mining activity. The type of material mined, the amount of materials, and the location and position of the deposit must be considered. After all, a mine should operate economically best possible. Basically, there are open pit mining, underground mining, in-situ mining and placer mining. Open pit or surface mining is the oldest way of extracting raw materials. If the coveted raw materials are close to the surface, this is the best method. Deep shafts are not necessary. The overburden, i.e., the material that is directly above the ore body, usually consists of soil, rock and plants. With underground mining, the effort is much greater, but the space required, and the ecological footprint are smaller. This is because open pit mining requires the typical graded sites to be represented. More dangerous is underground mining, where there are different types, horizontal or vertical tunnels or a combination of both.

In in-situ mining, the material from the mine is not processed at the surface, but with the help of chemical solutions, the minerals are dissolved and this solution is pumped out of the mine. This is the common processing method for uranium mining, but it is not suitable for gold. Special equipment must be used given the chemicals involved. In placer mining, which is used primarily for gold, gemstones, tin, platinum and titanium, the process itself is relatively simple. Extensive surveying is necessary here. In addition to these four main types of raw material extraction, there are several other ways to obtain the coveted raw materials.

One uranium company, Uranium Energy - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/uranium-energy-corp/ -, has environmentally friendly in situ recovery (ISR) projects in the United States and Canada. Two ready ISR production platforms are in place in South Texas and Wyoming.

The lithium needed for batteries, for example, is extracted by Alpha Lithium - https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/mining-newsflash-with-alpha-lithium-hannan-metals-gold-royalty-and-targa-exploration/ - using a lithium brine extraction process. The lithium comes from salt lakes. Alpha Lithium has two excellent projects in Argentina in the Lithium Triangle.
