Cobalt, nickel, and lithium - important raw materials for the future

(PresseBox) (Herisau, )
Critical metals and rare earths are of particular interest to many countries. Because China's supremacy is not desired.

Climate policy is a central issue. In order to get closer to the goal of energy security and a move away from fossil fuels, certain raw materials are in demand. Cobalt, nickel and lithium are at the top of the list. Dependence on foreign supply chains is not popular. Looking at global reserves of critical raw materials, China leads the way with more than 42 percent. Brazil has the second largest share, still a good 20 percent. Apart from Russia (a good ten percent), other important economies only have reserves in the single-digit percentage range. In the case of cobalt, for example, slightly more than half comes from the Congo, which is not without problems. In terms of global lithium reserves, Chile leads the way with almost 44 percent, followed by Australia.

On the demand side, the gap in critical metals is widening in the coming years. While the deficit is currently not that large, it is forecast to increase steadily every year. The U.S. and also Europe are aware that something must be done to equip themselves with the necessary raw materials for climate change. The U.S. is spending billions of U.S. dollars to achieve energy security and to advance climate goals. After all, we have recently seen how quickly dependencies can lead to problems. Globalization has become deglobalization. For companies whose projects are located in secure jurisdictions and who can supply the raw materials they need, the future should look bright. These include Canada Nickel Company and US Critical Metals.

Canada Nickel Company - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/canada-nickel-company-inc/ - owns the Crawford nickel-cobalt-sulfide project in Canada. It is one of the largest nickel-cobalt projects on earth and is located in an excellent and safe mining area.

US Critical Metals - https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/us-critical-metals-exploration-at-3-projects-for-lithium-rare-earths-and-cobalt-copper/ - takes care of critical metals and rare earths. The company owns a lithium project in Nevada, two rare earth projects in Montana and Idaho, a cobalt project in Idaho and a uranium project in Idaho.
