You just hold the RFID token close to the IB-220RFID and suddenly the hard drive isn't recognized by the computer anymore. It is encrypted. Even if someone steals the HDD, it cannot be read on another computer. Decryption, too, is enabled by the RFID's radio code. In a similar way the engine electronics of a car are blocked and deblocked by the immobilizer. By the way, RFID means radio frequency identification.
Good and important to know: the 128-bit encryption follows the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) and protects your HDD, not only the identity of the RFID token. That separates the ICY BOX form less elaborate enclosures.
You carry the RFID token of the IB-220RFID at your key bundle or like loose change in your pocket or purse. The IB-220RFID comes with two tokens. That's safer.
