The solutions utilize standard GPRS mobile networks to provide secure connectivity for networks of electronic point of sale and automated teller machines back to transaction processing centers. Vcomms has leveraged New Zealand’s world leading positioning in EFTPOS usage to develop and prove low cost, robust and secure network solutions for banks, retailers and other service providers that want to extend their networks to more locations securely and cost effectively.
Vcomms regards Europe as major market for its technology because of the high penetration of GPRS networks in Europe and the growth in both EFTPOS usage and remote ATM deployment with the spread of chip and pin and other initiatives.
As John Robins, general manager, Vcomms explains: “The key points of the Vcomms solutions were that they meet the clients’ cost and speed criteria. Additionally, through the clever use of dual GPRS networks, Vcomms offers unprecedented network availability. With our solutions, banks can cut their operating expenditure for network connections to cash-machines to 50 percent. The wireless connection is useful because 27% of all cash-machines are not located at banks.”
Vcomms is one of nine IT-companies from New Zealand which will be showcasing their latest products and services at a joint stand at CeBIT 2006 in Hanover, Germany. For the second year running New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the government’s trade and economic development agency, will be bringing some of the very brightest and exciting Kiwi IT companies to Europe. They will be exhibiting on the ”New Zealand: New Thinking“ Stand A25 in Hall 3.
About Vcomms
Vcomms Ltd, based in New Zealand’s capital Wellington, was incorporated in 2001 with the strategic intent of providing connectivity products and solutions for Short Duration Transaction Networks (SDTNs) such as Electronic Funds Transfer Point Of Sale (EFTPOS) and ATM networks. During 2002 Vcomms acquired a business with a 25 year history in the design and manufacture of data communications products. These products had been sold world-wide to major participants in the telecommunications, banking, financial services and utilities sectors and the acquisition provided Vcomms with a skilled and experienced group of people who had a strong collective and successful background in telecommunications. Vcomms' range of SDTN products enables the integration of installed EFTPOS terminals, ATMs and bank hosts onto IP networks.
