MSC Technologies presents fanless embedded system for Industry 4.0 applications

(PresseBox) (Stutensee, ) MSC Technologies, a business unit of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), presents the EN-A3 embedded system which operates throughout the complete temperature range from 0° - 45° C without requiring a fan. The robust industrial computer is suited for reliably 24/7 applications and is almost maintenance-free even in a dusty environment.

As low-cost entry-level model, the box PC is ideal for a wide range of Industry 4.0 applications e.g. as gateway or as display control. Important characteristics, such as fault tolerance, real-time capability and time synchronization, are defined exactly as part of the Quality of Services (QoS) for all Industry 4.0 components. Thus, the Intel® I210IT Dual Gbit Ethernet controller integrated in the EN-A3 is IEEE1588 (Precision Time Protocol, PTP)-conform; this means that the time-of-day inaccuracy is less than 1 ms and so allows the controller to be used for measuring and control systems.

The compact EN-A3 embedded system integrates as standard a mini-ITX board with the quad-core Intel® Atom E3845 processor with 1.91 GHz clock and integrated 2 MB cache. Alternatively, the box IPC can be equipped with the dual-core Intel® Atom E3826 processor (1.46 GHz) or the single-core E3814 (1.46 GHz). The processor integrates the high-performance Intel® HD graphics. The fast DDR3 RAM main memory can be expanded to a maximum capacity of 8 GB.

Despite its compact construction of 200 x 200 x 51 mm, the EN-A3 provides many popular interfaces: two GigaBit LANs, one USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0, four serial connections, audio and an internal Serial ATA interface for a SATA II 300 device. The system is equipped with three graphics outputs VGA, DVI-D and DisplayPort (DP) whereas two outputs can be used in parallel.

For data storage, the industrial computer includes a mSATA SSD (Solid State Drive) that does not have any moving parts and avoids the need for extensive wiring. The CPU board offers internally two mini PCI Express x1 slots, where one slot can be chosen as mini PCI Express x1 or mSATA. As an option, the system can also be equipped with a 2.5 inch SSD.

The EN-A3 embedded system is available in a high-quality housing in any required color, also with company logo. The scope of supply includes mounting rails and optionally a wall-mounting bracket or a DIN rail-mounting. The box IPC provides a 12/24 VDC wide-range power input and an external 100 - 240 VAC power pack.
