MSC Technologies becomes a member of the OSADL

(PresseBox) (Stutensee, ) MSC Technologies, a company of Avnet (NYSE: AVT), strengthens its open source activities and joins the Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) eG. OSADL is a registered cooperative aiming to promote and support the usage of open source software in the automation industry and for embedded systems. As part of the membership, MSC Technologies submitted its MSC C6B-SLH embedded module based on Intel’s 6th generation Core processors to the OSADL QA Farm to get the board tested and monitored. OSADL performs long-term real time tests in the Linux kernel on the hardware and publishes the aggregated results on the OSADL website. Customers have access to this data which enables them to compare the real-time capabilities of the board with a large number of similar products. MSC Technologies will continue submitting further Computer-on-Module (COM) products to expand the MSC portfolio on the OSADL QA Farm.

Jens Plachetka, Manager Embedded Boards at MSC Technologies, explains: “The membership with OSADL is a great opportunity for us to play an active role in the Linux community and to extend our growth potential. Real-time and Linux are getting more and more important for our customers, especially in IoT applications spanning the full range from the module to the system. It is our commitment to provide all the necessary support to our customers to be successful in this area.”

OSADL provides support in using open source software in industrial products – ranging from coordination and promotion of open source projects for industry to optimisation of open source software in the OSADL QA Farm through to support for complying with legal requirements of open source software.

“We are pleased to welcome MSC Technologies, a company with many years of development and manufacturing experience in the embedded sector, to the membership list of OSADL,” says Dr. Carsten Emde, Managing Director of OSADL. “Our range of services not only strengthens with each new member, but each new member also contributes to the success of our community with their specific know-how.”

The MSC C6B-SLH Type 6 COM Express module family in the Basic form factor of 95 mm x 125 mm integrates 6th generation Intel® Core processors (codenamed Skylake-H). The computer-on-modules can control three independent displays with up to 4k x 2k pixels resolution. Design and manufacturing of the embedded modules take place at MSC Technologies in Germany.
