Fifteen new MCUs from NEC Electronics in product portfolio
V850E/Ix4 microcontroller family enables fine-grained and especially energy-efficient motor controls
The 1.5 times increase in operating frequency, compared to NEC Electronics' V850E/Ix3 family, enables a high PWM cycles frequency, higher inverter/motor control frequencies and therefore substantially finer-grained motor control. In addition, the CPU performance has also been enhanced in the area of multiplication. Both 16 x 16 multiply with 32-bit result and 32 x 32 multiply with a 64-bit result are executed within one to two clocks.
Furthermore, saturated addition and subtraction instructions enable the generation of filter and control algorithms that help to prevent overflow and underflow conditions. Overflows are extremely dangerous as these can cause inadvertent braking of the motor at full-speed.
The safety of a motor control has been further increased as a result of on?chip implementation of the required dead time generation of the complementary PWM outputs and a software-independent fast shutdown via a separate controller pin.
Furthermore, the V850E/IG4-H and V850E/IH4-H devices include an on-chip USB 2.0 compatible interface controller that simplifies the connection between peripheral systems and diagnostic interfaces for inverter control applications. In order to meet the requirements of the USB interface and other data-transfer requirements, all the new devices support seven DMA channels.
The V850E/IG4 microcontrollers are available in a 100-pin LQFP and the V850E/IH4 MCUs in a 128-pin LQFP. Samples of the new MCUs are available now. Mass production is expected to begin in December 2009.
MSC Technologies GmbH
Founded in 1979, Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH, in the same company group with MSC Vertriebs GmbH, has established itself as one of the leading pan-European distributors of electronic assemblies and components. One of the reasons for the high acceptance by customers and suppliers is the company's early focus on comparatively few, highly sophisticated products such as microcontrollers, programmable logic devices, displays and customer specific power supplies. From this, the resulting in-depth technical know-how of our sales engineers and field application engineers today enables us, if required by the customer, even implementation of complete new designs right up to the finished product. With two of its own ASIC design centers, the Gleichmann research laboratory in Austria and one of the largest and most modern programming centers in Europe, Gleichmann Electronics takes a leading role in terms of service and customer support.
