Corresponding on highest demands the MTG service spectrum also contains application engineering, consultation services and the development as well as the construction of special gadgets, equipment and special test benches in the field of interior and exterior vehicle noise and vibration measurements.

Today, there has been rapidly growing demand for special microphones and test benches for this kind of measurements, especially in the automotive sector.

Exterior and Interior noise measurements are of growing importance, not only in the granting of vehicle-certification by official authorities, but also in the sector of vehicle development and production quality assurance.

MTG offers different Exterior and Interior noise test benches for pass-by PST in accordance with ISO and for simulated pass-by measurements.

Exterior Noise Test Benches

for pass-by PST in accordance with ISO and for simulated pass-by measurements with the weatherproof microphone unit WME 960 H/V or the new WME 980 H/V
  •        Measuring method for noise reduction of motor vehicles
  •        Type-approval procedure by accelerated passing according to current ISO
       Internationally standardized Measurement procedure:

       Operating conditions of the vehicle: measurement of the A-weighted level progression
  • Approach at 50 km/h (max. 3/4 nominal RPM)
  • Accelerated passing from the right and left twice each,
  • Pass-by with maximum acceleration - maximum level gives external noise type test value
  • Gear selection mechanical transmission: 2nd and 3rd gear, level linearly averaged
  • Gear selection automatic transmission: i.e. highest position (D) with resulting Switching back
The noise level of a passing vehicle is determined with two special weatherproof measurement  microphones at a distance of 7.5 m from the center of the road as a function of the distance travelled. The result is set in relation to the respective test requirements and can be evaluated accordingly.

Interior Noise Test Benches - Test facility for simulated pass-by measurement / Stationary measurement, engine without driving resistance

Test drives on special test tracks are necessary to investigate the acoustics of the vehicles.

The problem with open-air tests tracks is, that external factors such as different weather conditions, ambient noise and other can falsify the measurement results.

The test series are very complex, time-consuming and therefore cost-intensive. For this reason, many vehicle manufacturers test in soundproof, semi-anechoic chambers isolated from the outside world.
