Pierburg Pump Technology GmbH, Neuss, Germany, a member of the Kolbenschmidt Pierburg Group (which belongs to the Rheinmetall Group) has made an agreement with Mikuni Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, regarding the formation of a sales, development and production joint venture for electric coolant and variable oil pumps destined for the Asian markets. Pierburg Pump Technology's stake is 51 percent.
In the face of future engine concepts such as hybrid and electrically powered vehicles and given the trend toward fuel consumption reduction in conventional engines, the use of variable electric oil and water pumps is of gaining significance. Especially regarding the electric coolant pump technology launched onto the market by Pierburg, the envisaged cooperation will yield for both companies additional opportunities with Japanese manufacturers and on the Chinese and Indian auto markets.

Mikuni is a very well-established auto-component supplier on the Asian markets, specifically of carburetors for motor cars and bikes, oil and coolant pumps, throttle bodies, actuators and solenoid valves as well as injection system components. The corporation has its own production facilities in Japan, China and India besides sales offices worldwide.
