During a celebration to mark the handover, which was attended by the infrastructure minister for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rostock's Lord Mayor, Vossloh management and RSAG directors, the new trams started the scheduled transportation of passengers. The total volume of this order was approx. € 38 million. The federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania invested around € 19 million in the 13 new vehicles.
The new 5-part articulated railcars are 32 metres long and 2.65 metres wide.
The vehicle width was narrowed down to 2.30 m up to the level of the doors in order to allow the existing platforms to still be used and avoid the need for conversions. The additional width of the trams means there is tangibly more space inside the vehicles.
During this project, great store was set by energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. The new TramLinks stand out in particular due to their very low energy consumption which is achieved by saving braking energy in the so-called SuperCaps. This energy is made available for accelerating. As such, current peaks when starting up are reduced and considerably less energy is required from the tram wire.
