Rollout in Bielefeld: Vossloh Kiepe and consortium partners Heiterblick present the new "Vamos" light-rail vehicle to MoBiel

(PresseBox) (Düsseldorf, ) On July 1st, 2011, the first Vamos GTZ8-B light-rail vehicle was introduced to a selected expert audience in a rollout. In total, the order awarded to the manufacturer consortium of Vossloh Kiepe and Heiterblick in 2009 contains 16 light-rail cars with an option for an additional 25 vehicles. As consortium leaders, Vossloh Kiepe is responsible for the overall coordination and for the electric equipment while the Heiterblick will manufacture the coach bodies and bogies.

Consortium representatives Bernd Flaskamp (Vossloh Kiepe) and Rainer Tietz (HeiterBlick) were happy to hand over the vehicle to Werner Brinkmann (MoBiel).

An "open house" took place on the premises of MoBiel on July 3rd 2011. This gave the general public the chance to take a close look at the new streetcar which proved to be a crowd magnet - even into the late evening hours.

It took more than one year for the first Vamos to be built and tailored to the infrastructural needs of Bielefeld. The urban railway car, featuring a length of 34 metres, is a good seven metres longer than the previous railway and features a high level of spaciousness through its convex form, which was especially developed for this purpose. The vehicle has 230 passenger seats. This could only be realized by treading completely new paths in manufacturing and using the latest state-of-the-art technologies.

The vehicle will be subjected to extensive testing and inspections in the coming weeks in Bielefeld and is supposed to start operation together with other vehicles in the fall of this year.
