Generic interface allows flexible integration!
Cost-Effective USB Board-Level Cameras with GenICam Interface
With GenICam (Generic Interface for Cameras), the European Machine Vision Association EMVA last year introduced a new standard for programming industrial cameras. This standard is the first to define a manufacturer- and technology-independent programming interface (API) for machine vision applications. Initially developed for GigE cameras, GenICam can meanwhile also be used for models with USB, FireWire and other interfaces. The generic interface allows users working with cameras from different manufacturers to access all the cameras from one common interface.
IDS now provides GenICam also for its uEye® LE series, thus making this cost-effective camera series even more interesting for system integrators and OEMs: Programming with a standardized API quickly pays for itself, especially in frequently changing hardware environments.
The USB cameras of the LE series are available as a CE-B certified housing version with C/CS-mount lens connection and as a space-saving board-level version with or without S-mount lens holder. State-of-the-art monochrome and color CMOS sensors offer resolutions from WVGA (87 frames/sec) to up to 5 MP.
The camera ships with a Software Development Kit and a wide choice of interfaces and drivers. Besides the GenICam interface, the software package includes a TWAIN interface, a DirectShow/WDM interface and an ActiveX component. A GenICam sample application complete with source code shows users how to integrate the cameras with their own applications, independently of the manufacturer and technology.
IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH
IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH is an internationally renowned company with over ten years of successful history. Initially a “two-man firm,” IDS started out in 1997 by developing and distributing frame grabbers, which laid the foundation for the company's success. In 2004 IDS launched its first industrial camera under the brand name uEye®. Meanwhile several tens of thousands of uEye® cameras – with USB or GigE interface – are in use worldwide in industrial automation, quality assurance and security technology as well as non-industrial applications. IDS has a staff of about 80 employees in the development, production, sales, marketing and support departments at its head office in Obersulm, Germany. Internationally the company is represented by its subsidiary in the USA and through its network of distributors in almost all European and Asian countries.
