Lower consumption and emissions, greater comfort and safety – in order for future automobiles to meet these key demands, new electronic and software solutions are required. These can only be effectively developed from both a technical and economic standpoint through interdisciplinary collaboration. The already impressive list of exhibitors and the driveIT programme of events are both perfectly aligned towards this. The first international trade convention for automotive software and electronics will take place in Stuttgart, Germany, from 4 to 6 November 2008.
Be it the development of future low-consumption and low-emission drive concepts such as high-voltage systems or CE4A integration (Consumer Electronics for Automotive), it is clear that electrical, electronic and software systems play a key role. As is the case when defining standards, today it is more the idea of "how do we develop?" that is a crucial factor in finding efficient solutions. The interdisciplinary cooperation of E/E architects and IT experts is therefore becoming increasingly important. "With this in mind, we are particularly delighted to have so many notable names from the world of electrics/electronics as well as software and engineering on board at driveIT", reports Claus Hähnel, a director at H & K Messe GmbH, the company hosting the event. Companies such as Bertrandt and TZ Mikroelektronik for example, are exhibiting at the first trade convention for Automotive Software and Electronics alongside names such as Aquintos, AbsInt Angewandte Informatik, dSpace, ETAS, Vector and IAV and MSE Micro Solutions Engineering. "As service providers for hardware and software development to automotive specifications, what really motivated us to exhibit at driveIT was the opportunity to get together at one of the most important European automotive sites and discuss various common issues with both existing and potential customers, colleagues from the industry and those with an interest in what we do", explains Sven Kohler, director at MSE. The international trade convention has not only stimulated interest among German firms. Foreign companies are also keen to take part. Indeed, TTTech Automotive from Austria and VaST Systems, Technology Corporation from the US have already confirmed their participation.
As it focuses solely on the automotive industry, driveIT offers a comprehensive portfolio of exhibitors covering software, hardware, tools, content, engineering, process and quality management, corporate consulting and research. This offers company directors, developers, design engineers, technical experts, purchasers, production and quality representatives of OEMs and tier 1 suppliers an effective way of finding innovative approaches and solutions as well as new partners for upcoming development projects.
driveIT convention – new ways to innovative solutions
Just like the driveIT specialist trade fair, the goal of the convention is to inspire innovations and new collaborations. With this in mind, presentations given by renowned guest speakers from industry, research and universities will pick up at the point where those at similar events typically end – namely the future outlook. And again here, it is not just a question of which solutions will be needed in future, but also of how they can be developed – and what new paths have to be explored to do this. New roles in development processes, new or more clearly defined career specifications and courses of study, as well as more efficient support and promotion through industry and politics are just some topics to stimulate further discussion here. The highlights of the driveIT convention, which is to be held in cooperation with the trade journals ATZ and ATZelektronik, Vieweg + Teubner Auto Medien and GWV Fachverlage GmbH, also include the first public appearance of "Innovationsallianz Automobil-Elektronik" - an alliance focusing on innovation in the field of automotive electronics founded in Autumn 2007. The alliance will be presenting its goals and philosophy and offering information on plans for future projects.
The programme of the driveIT trade fair and convention will be rounded off with the presentation of the driveIT Awards. Awards will be given for best practice solutions in the categories "Function/software", "Sensor/actuator technology", "Networking" and "Tools".
