More and more industrial manufacturers are re-evaluating their existing identification processes. Labels create additional material and logistics costs, may become detached or damaged during production, and are increasingly reaching their limits in automated manufacturing environments. At the same time, demand is growing for durable markings that enable reliable product identification and complete traceability throughout the production process. Against this backdrop, direct laser marking is gaining importance as a key element of modern manufacturing and quality assurance strategies. Unlike labels, laser marking creates a permanent mark directly on the workpiece, simplifying identification processes and providing the foundation for reliable traceability throughout the entire product lifecycle.
New Fiber Laser Enables Efficient Marking of Complex Components
With the new Y.0602 fiber laser, FOBA introduces a solution designed for industrial marking applications involving challenging component geometries and varying workpiece heights. Thanks to its multi-level marking capability, laser marks can be applied across multiple levels within a single operation.
This opens new possibilities, particularly in metalworking applications. Manufacturers of machined components or assemblies featuring recesses, steps, and raised surfaces often need to mark different areas of a part. Conventional marking methods frequently require multiple process steps, repositioning of the component, or additional adjustments.
FOBA's new fiber laser enables these different levels to be marked without repositioning the workpiece. This capability is made possible by an industry-leading focus range of up to 99 millimeters, allowing different height levels to be processed within a single marking cycle. For manufacturers, this means shorter setup times, fewer manual interventions, and higher productivity. At the same time, consistent marking quality can be maintained across all levels of the component.
Process Reliability Through Precise Marking and Intelligent Vision Technology
The integration of a camera-based vision system enables automated part recognition, laser alignment, and mark verification. As a result, process quality can be enhanced even when component shapes, heights, or positions vary.
"In practice, we frequently encounter components with different heights, recesses, or stepped surfaces that traditionally require multiple processing steps," explains Philipp Febel, Director Product Management. "The new Y-Series was developed specifically to address these challenges. Its large focus range allows different levels of a workpiece to be marked within a single process. This reduces setup effort while increasing productivity and process reliability."
At FMB 2026, FOBA will present live demonstrations showing how modern laser marking solutions can support manufacturing operations and unlock new potential by replacing labels with permanent direct-part marking.
