Not one, but two product series from the new Dometic WAECO mobile electronics range have been granted the prestigious Caravaning Design Award 2008/2009. The PerfectCharge automatic battery chargers as well as the SinePower sine wave inverters of the mobile electronics specialists were among the winners of the coveted trophy.
Dometic WAECO’s premium electronic products were selected for the award by a high-calibre jury team of design experts. The design competition “caravaning design award: innovations for new mobility 2008/2009” is a joint project between Messe Düsseldorf and red dot projects. The award was granted to 18 of 88 products submitted. The winners will be presented in an online show at www.caravaning-award.de as well as in an international yearbook named “caravaning design award: innovations for new mobility 2008/2009”.
The award ceremony took place on August 30 on the occasion of Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, which took place at the premises of Messe Düsseldorf. It was the forth time the trade fair company awarded the coveted design trophy for outstanding product design concepts in the motorhome and caravan industry.
Mobile electronics by Dometic WAECO can draw on a track record of many years, the products have become an indispensable part of the onboard equipment of innumerable motorhomes, trucks and yachts. So it was all the more important to “translate” the comprehensive technical know-how of the Dometic WAECO specialists into an appropriate and appealing design language. With this in mind, the company charged another proven team of experts with the brief to create a distinctive WAECO design for the new product generation. SquareOne, a renowned engineering firm based in Düsseldorf, was ready to face the challenge. SquareOne serves such prestigious clients as Henkel, Lufthansa, PepsiCo, WMF, Pentax and Opel. The experienced designer team headed by CEO Prof. Martin Topel and CEO Prof. Gert Trauernicht as well as Stefan Mostert as the Project Manager, created a product series that is unrivalled in terms of innovation, design, ergonomics, functionality and profitability.
“For each product group we meticulously analysed the interaction between the product, the installation, the user and the product environment. This resulted in the sloped operating panel, a characteristic feature of both series that allows convenient product handling at all times, even in unfavourable mounting situations,“ explains Prof. Martin Topel. Besides ergonomics, another distinctive feature of the new Dometic WAECO appliances is the aluminium sections used for all products, says Project Manager, Stefan Mostert. This construction ensures optimal heat dissipation, he explains, while it also provides smart options to attach accessories directly to the cabinet. The fact that the new product series looked really “sexy” in the end and walked away with the Caravaning Design Award was no coincidence to him but the logical progression of the engineering process.
