The past few years have seen the arvato Systems data center undergo continuous development in the form of numerous structural and technical changes. Specific customer requirements concerning security have been incorporated into the modernization process. In addition, a number of different measures have been implemented to ensure a comprehensive energy efficiency concept. These included cold aisle containment and outside cooling.
These changes were the main reason behind arvato Systems’ decision to have a neutral party audit the data center to assess the current situation.
In terms of operational security, a strict, market-relevant data center audit by eco was considered the only option to complement the ISO 27001 security certificate already in place. eco’s high requirements and high level of acceptance among customers were a perfect match for arvato Systems’ own high quality of service.
On 26 June, eco presented the results of the audit in five categories: redundancy concept, organizational security, structural security, security of supply, and technological security.
arvato Systems scored an average of 93 percent in all five categories – an excellent result. The company came close to 100 percent in the structural security and organizational security categories. arvato Systems was able to score especially well with air conditioning and achieve the maximum possible rating for data networks and network infrastructure. It is also worth mentioning that arvato Systems has already implemented DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management), despite the fact that it is still not industry standard in 2013. The redundancy concept was also particularly impressive as the key components were extended to 2n and all others to n+1, meaning the main components can be exchanged during operation with no restrictions in terms of availability.
“arvato Systems’ data center fulfilled all of the current standards and requirements. There are many details and measures in place that point to a modern, integrated concept. We were particularly impressed with operational security and the energy efficiency concept, which is how we came to award an overall rating of very good,” says Roland Broch of eco.
“We are very proud of this outstanding result. It shows both ourselves and our customers that our overall data center concept is on the right track when it comes to security and efficiency. The employees at the data center have done a great job,” says Thomas Chlebowski, Vice President at arvato Systems.
The eco assessment drew particular attention to arvato Systems’ energy efficiency and awarded them an additional fifth green star, making them an approved energy efficient data center. The auditors were very impressed by the high PUE value (Power Usage Effectiveness) during operation, not to mention the numerous energy efficiency measures, all of which demonstrate arvato Systems’ commitment to ‘Green IT.’
