London seeks bidders for london-domains

London: London domains are shorter and therefore also more memorable
London: London domains are shorter and therefore also more memorable

(pressebox) (Koeln, 17.12.2011) Cologne has done it. Berlin has done it. Hamburg has done it.Now London has done it too.

Domainincite.com reports the details: "London & Partners, the official promotional agency for London, has released a request for proposals for a registry to apply for and run .london as a new top-level domain. Bidders will have to sign up for CompeteFor, an online procurement tool designed primarily for the London 2012 Olympics, in order to submit their proposals. UK-based registries Nominet and CentralNic have already said they plan to respond to the RFP, but L&P says that it is open to companies anywhere, not only in the UK and EU."

End users can already pre-register at Secura GmbH the london-domains and the other important new top level domains. Pre-registration at domainregistry.de/london-domain.html is free, but mandatory. If domainregistry.de gets the name which the customer has ordered, the customer must pay the domain fee.

London-domains can better represent the British capital on the Internet. Anyone can bring immediately the owner of a London-Domain in connection with London. Numerous domains contain "london" as a part of the web address. The London Zoo, for example, is presenting currently its services at the URL http://www.zsl.org/.... A web address like www.zoo.london would be easier to remember and shorter.

The presentation by london-domain is in many cases for companies in London more attractive and more memorable. And the memorability of a domain is critical for the marketing of web sites
