If an attack is launched and the attacker has access to a critical network, it can be quickly paralyzed. As can be read more frequently in the daily press in recent months, the BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security) is receiving an increasing number of reports of targeted hacker attacks. Industrial production networks, logistics, public transport, etc. are on the rise - and worldwide.

In a Denial of Service (DoS) or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, heaps of requests are made to network devices that attempt to respond. This extremely high load then forces network resources to go into a mode where nothing else can be processed, necessitating a network shutdown or shutdown.
