XP1161: The smallest and lightest differential pressure sensor in the world!

(pressebox) (Brüggen-Bracht, 28.03.2018) Differential pressure measurements are required for various applications. For applications that had little installation space or needed light devices no reasonable solution was available until now. For rotating systems like turbines for example the size, as well as the weight are knock-out criteria. Previously available sensors were by far too big and heavy for those applications.

As a specialist for miniature pressure sensors, we were approached by the industry to find a solution for this problem. In collaboration with our customers and partners we were able to develop a solution for this challenge: According to our motto ‘MADE TO MEASSURE’ a sketch for a differential pressure transducer prototype (XP1126-1BD) was developed within few weeks. The very popular XP5 with M5-thread served as a basis for this development. Opposite the M5-thread of the XP5, a second M5-pressure port was added. The cable outlet was led out radially and airtight with a ‘metal-to-glass’-seal.

The popularity of this sensor led to customer requests for further implementations for varying measuring ranges. For this reason the newly developed XP1161 covers a wide range of measuring ranges with one design.

Despite its small size, a M5 thread, a weight of 7 g and a maximum diameter of only 10 mm, the XP1126 is very robust and suitable especially for demanding measurement environment, due to its non-magnetic titanium casing. Due to the flush titanium membrane on one side of the sensor, the sensor is compatible on this pressure port with almost all gases, fluids and aggressive substances. The sensor can measure a differential pressure of 1 bar, with a line pressure of up to 20 bar and a sensitivity of 10 mV/V and a compensated temperature range of 20 to 100 °C.

The new XP1161 has a similar design, also with two pressure ports with M5-thread. It is obtainable for the measurement ranges 0.35 – 1 – 2 – 3.5 – 7 bar differential pressure and is suitable for 4-times line pressure up to 20 bar. The sensor was developed for measurements in dry gases. It has a total weight of 9 g, a length of 29 mm and a maximum diameter of 10 mm. A compensated temperature range of 20 to 100 °C and IP50-protection complete the technical data.

Both sensors qualify perfectly for various applications, such as turbine manufacturing, who had to rely on ultra miniature pressure sensors, like the XP5, for fast rotating areas or for aviation and aerospace industry.
