WINGAS exhibits at the Hannover Fair

Following the successful business year 2012, WINGAS is planning further growth in Europe

(PresseBox) (Kassel, ) The gas supply company WINGAS will present its stand (Hall 13, C30) at the Hannover Fair from April 8 - 12, 2013 in the capital city of Lower Saxony. More than 1000 international companies will present their latest products and technologies. This year, the partner country of the fair is Russia. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Russian President Vladimir Putin will open the Hannover Fair together. "It is very interesting for WINGAS to present the company in the context of the fair and its partner country", says Dr. Gerhard König, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WINGAS. "Our company is an excellent example of the economic partnership between Germany and Russia. It symbolizes the successful long-term commitment of a Russian company in Germany." WINGAS was founded in 1993 by the Russian company Gazprom and the BASF-subsidiary Wintershall, the largest internationally active German oil and gas producer.

Since 20 years, WINGAS has been providing natural gas to municipalities, regional suppliers of natural gas, industrial customers and power plants. The company is one of the largest natural gas suppliers in Germany, with a market share of around 20 percent. WINGAS is also active in seven other European countries. More than half of the sales are now made in the European market. In 2012, WINGAS sold a total of 371 billion kilowatt hours of natural gas (2011: 305 kilowatt hours). The sales in Germany rose by around 10 percent to 185 billion kilowatt hours.

The growth course will be maintained in 2013, including the development of Europe-wide activities. The growth strategy reflects the increasing importance of natural gas in Europe. Since natural gas is the most climate-friendly fossil source of energy, it can help reach the climate protection goals of the European Union: "If we are serious about our goals of affordable climate protection, then we need to use the benefits of natural gas as a flexible energy source - not only in electricity production, but also on the heat market and in the transport sector. We have some catching up to do in that area”, König explains.
