UMS United Medical Systems International AG (UMS/ISIN DE0005493654) increased its operating revenues in the third quarter of 2010
Consolidated EBIT for the third quarter of this year came to EUR3.5 million, compared with EUR3.0 million the previous period. On an exchange rate adjusted basis, the increase in EBIT was 5%.
Earnings per share stood at EUR0.16, after EUR0.13 in the third quarter of 2009. That put UMS AG's earnings per share for the first nine months of the year at EUR0.46, following EUR0.40 for the same period a year ago.
The UMS Group's two most important segments varied in their performance. In the Urology segment, the total number of treatments as well as the average number of treatments per treatment day increased further, with revenues and earnings far ahead of the previous year's figures. The UMS Group's performance in the area of laser treatments was particularly robust.
In contrast, the Company was not able to reach its growth targets in the Gynecology segment. Demand in the United States receded in the wake of the country's stubbornly high unemployment rate, with many affected individuals and families also losing their health insurance after a carry-over period. The average number of stereotactic breast biopsies performed per day fell from the year before.
Overall, UMS AG is confirming its earnings guidance of EUR0.55 to EUR0.65 per share for 2010.
