Supercomputing for SMBs - Plug and Work

ttec invests in high-performance computing

(PresseBox) (Zaventem, ) From May 30 to June 3, 2010, ttec is exhibiting productive and easy-to-administer HPC solutions for small to medium-sized businesses at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) in Hamburg.

Large potential for HPC in SMBs

The demand for high-performance computing exists in many sectors regardless of a company's size or the number of employees. Large amounts of data need to be analysed and visualised as fast as is technically possible such as in CAD/CAE engineering or financial analysis sectors. For this reason, ttec has recognised a large potential for easy-to-operate and high-performance IT solutions in the small to medium-sized business sector. The HPC specialist can apply its know-how gained from customer projects for research and development organisations to make high-end technology accessible to small and medium-sized businesses. The company has installed over 400 HPC clusters to date and the Dresden-Rossendorf Research Centre and the University of Applied Sciences at Darmstadt are to name just two of the company's many customers. ttec is well-known among small to medium-sized businesses for application-oriented IT solutions and individual consultation and support services.

transtec faces radical strategic repositioning

Hans-Jürgen Bahde, Executive Board Member at transtec AG, has announced a new strategic positioning for transtec: "We are strengthening our position at the interface between HPC solutions for research institutes and efficient, user-oriented solutions for small to medium-sized businesses. Our SMB customers require economic efficiency rather than technically groundbreaking performance. We provide every customer, even small engineering offices and service providers, with a tailor-made solution that places the same emphasis on high performance as IT efficiency. We are now partnered with other technological companies and will reassess the area of HPC in companies. On June 24, 2010 at the transtec general shareholders' meeting, we will announce the largest strategic repositioning in our 30-year history. All I can say today is that HPC will play an extremely important role at transtec in future. We will create new internal structures and resources to expand this sector".

Productivity of engineers, developers and researchers in SMBs more important than computing performance alone

Small to medium-sized businesses expect productive computing clusters; the focus is not on squeezing the last flop of performance out of the system. More performance often results in higher energy or administration costs. "The ttec HPC team advises customers and develops solutions tailored to their individual requirements. Once ttec engineers have finished at the customer's premises, they leave behind a plug and play solution. A HPC solution can be so small that is stands in the office rather than in a separate server room - and that's what we call high-productivity computing by ttec", this is how Hans-Jürgen Bahde explains the ttec service.
