Cartamundi and Thinfilm have agreed to extend Cartamundi's production and commercialization rights to Thinfilm's memory technology under the Patent and Know-How, License Agreement signed in 2007

(PresseBox) (Turnhout, ) Cartamundi, a global market leader in the production and sale of trading, collectable and games cards, and Thin Film Electronics ASA ("Thinfilm") of Oslo, Norway with R&D facilities in Linkoping, Sweden announced today that they have extended the commercial License Agreement signed in 2007 to include a broader license field use.

In 2007 Cartamundi agreed to, against royalty payments to Thinfilm, include Thinfilm's patented technology into the development, manufacturing and sales of products in the markets of trading and collectable cards, retail and private label cards, casino cards, promotional cards and cards for games.

In an amendment to this agreement the parties have now agreed to extend the license field to also include the broader market of toys.

The commercial terms of the new agreement are undisclosed.

Johan Carlsson, CEO of Thinfilm stated that "We are extremely pleased about this agreement. Cartamundi is not only the undisputed leader in the market of cards and games, producing over 10 billion cards annually, but they also have a large number of highly profiled brand name customers around the world. Many of these customers are also major players in the toys segment. With the new agreement we will offer our memory technology through Cartamundi's worldwide sales organisation also into the larger global market of toys, which as a result will expand our business and market opportunities immensely."

Chris van Doorslaer, CEO of Cartamundi said "We noticed that the re-writable memory of Thinfilm not only works great with games. Many of our games customers have asked very specific questions about applying this great technology on toys. We are very pleased that we can expand our work with Thinfilm and enable worldwide our customer base to create and manufacture the toys for the connected generation. The non volatile, re-writable memory cells of Thinfilm are outstanding and offer possibilities which were not feasible before."

Printed Electronics

Printed Electronics is a new, emerging industry that takes advantage of printing technologies to manufacture electronics with a wider variety of form factors, including thin, flexible substrates. Through the use of proprietary printing techniques, these electronic circuits can be manufactured at high efficiency and very high volumes compared to traditional electronics. This enables electronic functionality in a whole new family of products such as medical and consumer disposables, cards, labels, RFID tags, toys and games.
