Mobile internet provided by O2: quicker than ever with HSPA+

Telefónica O2 Germany announced the acceleration of the company's mobile data network based on HSPA+. O2 provides customers the new technology in the second half of the year 2009. HSPA+ enables the download of data at a transfer rate of 28 MBit per second and the upload at 5.76 MBit/s.

The launch of the new technology will take place in Munich. For the first time customers will be able to experience the benefits of the mobile high-speed web. The high-speed up- and download allows high-quality internet-TV, fastest response times for online gaming and even more efficient work in companies. In Summer O2 will start a friendly user test in Munich. Huawei Technologies will deliver the appropriate technology and a surf stick for mobile surfing the web.

"Our cooperation with Huawei has set new standards", said Jaime Smith Basterra, the CEO of Telefónica O2 Germany, on the press conference in Barcelona. "Today, we see rapid growth of the mobile web. The new technology enables us to make a big step forward into the future this year".

O2 and Huawei have successfully cooperated on the German market for a long time. The two companies cooperate in the expansion of the German O2 mobile network.
