IDT Introduces World's First Piezoelectric MEMS Oscillators for High-performance Applications

IDT's 4M Series LVDS / LVPECL Oscillators with Less Than One Pico-second of Jitter Are an Ideal Replacement for Traditional Six-pin Crystal-based Oscillators

Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®; NASDAQ: IDTI), the Analog and Digital Company(TM) delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced the world's first CrystalFree(TM) piezoelectric MEMS (pMEMS(TM) ) LVDS / LVPECL oscillators for high-performance communications, consumer, cloud, and industrial applications. IDT's new oscillators operate with substantially less than one picosecond of phase jitter in compact industry-standard packaging, making them an ideal replacement for traditional six-pin crystal oscillators (XOs).

The IDT 4M series high-performance LVDS / LVPECL oscillators leverage IDT's patented CrystalFree pMEMS resonator technology, enabling IDT to rapidly factory-program the desired output frequency without the need to fine-tune expensive crystals. In addition, because the nominal resonator frequency of pMEMS is much higher than quartz crystal, 4M oscillators are able to achieve higher frequencies at lower cost without sacrificing critical performance. The 4M series is the first of a broad portfolio of MEMS-based devices from IDT that will provide customers with convenient, accurate, low-jitter timing references.

"As the leader in timing, our customers have been waiting for IDT's pMEMS tech-nology to expand into high-performance applications such as communications - a sig-nificant segment of the $4B frequency control market," said Fred Zust, vice president and general manager of the Timing and Synchronization Division at IDT. "IDT's pa-tented pMEMS resonator technology combines the strong electromechanical coupling of the piezoelectric material with the stability and low damping of single-crystal silicon, allowing us to create convenient and cost-effective XO replacements with unparalleled performance and reliability. These products complement our award-winning solid-state oscillators to offer a comprehensive frequency control portfolio to replace quartz-based devices in a growing number of market segments."

The IDT 4M oscillators operate with ±50 ppm frequency accuracy over the wide in-dustrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The devices support low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) and low-voltage positive emitter-coupled logic (LVPECL) at frequencies of up to 625 MHz, meeting the stringent requirements of most communications, networking and high-performance computing applications. In addition to 7.0 x 5.0 mm (7050) sizes, IDT's pMEMS oscillators are available in small 5.0 x 3.2 mm (5032) standard plastic packages to save cost and minimize the application footprint in densely populated enclosures. By design, they are pin-to-pin compatible with traditional XOs, making them an ideal upgrade replacement solution.
