RWE supplies tail wind for German football
Wind power for DFB Media Centre in Danzig / RWE supports environmental initiative, "DFB Umweltcup 2012"(PresseBox) ( Essen, )
"The RWE Group is aiming for rapid expansion of renewables in Europe and has an ambitious investment plan for renewables in Poland", explains Filip Thon, CEO of RWE Polska. "For this reason, we are pleased to be able to supply the DFB Media Centre in Danzig with green power from our Polish wind farms. At the moment, we are able to meet the annual electricity needs of 100,000 households by supplying green power from our wind farms in the Suwalki region and Western Pomerania."
At the DFB Media Centre, RWE will also be demonstrating other ways in which RWE is advancing intelligent energy. For instance, the Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles for the national team will be rebooted at RWE charging points, and journalists will be able to use e-bikes to get from the training field to their own quarters in no time at all.
National team manager Oliver Bierhoff says: "We are very happy to successfully cooperate with RWE in this project. The project allows us to deliver compelling proof also at the Euro 2012 of just how seriously we at DFB take the issue of climate change and environmental protection."
Poland is an important core market for RWE and a significant growth market for renewables.
With its three wind farms, RWE already has installed capacity of 108 MW in the country and construction of a fourth wind farm near Danzig has already begun. RWE plans to add 50 MW of wind power capacity in Poland every year until 2015.
The issue of climate change and environmental protection is of central importance to the DFB, which is why it launched its environmental initiative, "DFB Umweltcup" (German Football Federation Environmental Cup), in February 2012. It is intended to motivate the 6.8 million members of over 26,000 football clubs throughout Germany to care for the environment and save energy. RWE is supporting the DFB Umweltcup and offers plenty of interesting ideas, products and services for saving energy to football clubs on the DFB website.
