ISC Cloud'11 Conference Focuses on Use of Clouds for High Performance Computing

(PresseBox) (Mannhein, Germany, ) While cloud computing is gaining traction for enterprise computing, the suitability of such centralized computing resources for meeting the demand for high performance computing (HPC) continues to be widely discussed and analyzed. On September 26 - 27, cloud computing experts from around the world will gather at ISC'11, bringing a range of experience and perspectives to address this issue.

ISC Cloud'11 is the second conference in the series and is presented by the same organization that hosts the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), now in its 26th year.

"The ISC Cloud'11 conference will help you to understand all the details of this massive trend: the conference will focus on compute-intensive and data-intensive applications, their resource needs in the cloud, and strategies on implementing and deploying cloud infrastructures," said ISC Cloud General Chair Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gentzsch, an international expert in HPC and Grids who now brings his expertise to the clouds."This year's conference will target members of the HPC community, especially decision makers in small, medium and large enterprises and in research."

The key topics of this conference are:

- Industrial Cloud Best Practices
- Academic Cloud User Experiences
- Modeling HPC Clouds
- Key Security & Compliance Issues
- Critical Aspects of HPC Cloud
- Panel: Meet the Vendors

Topics like "Building Hybrid Clouds for Academic Research at the institutional and National Level", "Risk analyses for electric power systems running in the Cloud", "Challenges in Building and Operating a Corporate HPC-Cloud for Distributed Organizations" and "License Management in Cloud Computing Environments" will be addressed and discussed at the conference.

In his keynote address, Ian Foster will discuss how commercial cloud computing can lead to smarter science. Dr. Ian Foster is Director of the Computation Institute, a joint institute of the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, where the U.S. Department of Energy is testing the suitability of clouds for scientific computing.

This year, the ISC Cloud conference will be hosting a tabletop exhibition alongside the conference program giving attendees an opportunity to discuss specific requirements with sponsors such as HP, Intel, Microsoft, SGI and Bull.
