Pironet NDH Supports Sandwich Degree Course in Business Informatics

Co-operation with universities of applied sciences to promote practice-based education

(PresseBox) (Cologne, ) The shortage of skilled staff in Germany is continuing to increase and is apparent above all in technical sectors. In order to provide well-qualified school leavers with higher education entrance qualification with targeted and practice-based education from the very beginning, Pironet NDH is becoming more involved in promoting young talent. As a co-operation partner, the company - in association with universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia - is offering a sandwich degree course in business informatics.

The co-operation partners are the European University of Applied Sciences (EUFH) in Brühl and the FOM University of Applied Sciences in Cologne. The course takes three to four years, and the degree obtained is a Bachelor of Science. The tuition fees are borne by Pironet NDH. Since the comprehensive practical part of the course is assessed as a long-term work placement, the students also receive additional payment.

During the course, the budding IT specialists switch between the theoretical component at the university of applied sciences and the practical component in the company every three months. This enables the students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice immediately, as a result of which they soon build up sound practical experience. This is a great advantage later on when they begin their career. The early-established and close ties to the company also mean that they have the best opportunity of being taken on later. In this way, Pironet NDH can obtain new employees who are to a very great degree already familiar with operations.

"Particularly in times when there is a shortage of skilled staff, attractive training models are more important than ever", says Andreas Ludl, the Director responsible for the Legal and Human Resources departments at Pironet NDH. "For many years, we have consistently trained an increasing number of new IT staff - and over 40% of our trainees are still working in our company today. With the sandwich degree course, we want to create an additional incentive for young, talented people who are interested in a career in IT, particularly in software development. The strong emphasis on practical application and the short period of study with above-average learning conditions provide the best basis for this."

At the "Business Informatics Day" on 5 March 2009, the European University of Applied Sciences (EUFH) in Brühl will provide information on the sandwich degree course for school students and those who already have A-levels. Further information is available at:
