Sagem Orga and Fraunhofer FOKUS cooperate in the "TVVIN" project
New research in identity management
Whether for access to security zones, logging into the company network when on the road or using mobile services - managing and protecting identities is growing in both importance and complexity. In the future, end-to-end identity management systems will offer citizens a single means of accessing a large number of applications.
Solutions developed by Sagem Orga with innovative card technologies will play a key role here. Greater security and user friendliness for applications with identity verification are possible only through research and the further development of existing technologies.
In the TVVIN* project, Sagem Orga is cooperating with FOKUS, the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, to develop smart card-based applications for managing identities. The results will be used in various spheres of life, including the healthcare sector, government and access control as well as mobile telecommunications.
Professor Dr.-Ing. Radu Popescu-Zeletin, head of the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, noted: "Together with Sagem Orga, Fraunhofer FOKUS is developing prototypes of next-generation, smart card-based identity management systems that use innovative biometric authentication methods, for example."
The institute's Secure eIdentity Lab offers the possibility of testing and demonstrating smart card solutions as a part of complex overall systems in real-life scenarios. In particular, it will be possible to examine future processes and systems whose components are only available as prototypes.
The Fraunhofer Society has recently established the innovation cluster "Secure Identity"** in partnership with Sagem Orga, 11 other business enterprises, the German government, the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg, five universities and five Fraunhofer Institutes. The TVVIN project is part of this cluster.
