Professional laundry on smallest of footprints - disinfection included

Innovative washing machines and tumble dryers with load capacities of up to 6.5 kg

(PresseBox) (Gütersloh, ) The success story of Miele's commercial washing machines and tumble dryers with a load capacity of up to 6.5 kg (Little Giants) is set to continue: Since the beginning of 2010, these machines have also featured additional programmes to meet the special needs of institutional care centres.

Although the current generation of Little Giants has been on the market for 5 years already, these machines remain unparallelled in terms of performance. Laundry is washed and dried within the space of only 90 minutes. And yet, installed as a spacesaving washerdryer stack, these machines require less than half a square metre of floor space. The 'Professional' series, ideal for nursing homes, offers 50 wash programmes and more than 30 drying programmes, for example for kitchen, table and bed linen as well as pillows. Washing at 85°C and a holding time of 15 minutes using readily available detergents ensures safe disinfection. Three chemothermal disinfection programmes are also available, with temperature holding times between 10 and 30 minutes.

An 'Intensive wash' programme is available to cope with heavy soiling. And, also new, are five 'special programmes' each on the washing machine and dryer allowing the user to compile individual programmes for special applications. These can be saved under their own names. Users decide which programmes are activated before the machine is first used. At the same time, the user interface can be adapted to the level of expertise of users thanks to the new 'Profitronic L Vario' controls. Four programmes can be defined for fast access. On machines operated by unfamiliar users, programme choice can be restricted to just these four programmes. The user menu can be called up in 21 languages.

Connection of up to 6 dispenser pumps

For additional convenience, the washing machines can be connected to up to 6 dispenser pumps. These ensure the precise dosing of liquid products. On the 6.5 kg models, delivery of chemicals into the drum is via a patented multichannel duct which keeps products apart until they reach the drum. All washing machines feature a new powder dispenser with Miele's AutoClean technology, patent pending, ensuring the residuefree removal of all detergent from the dispenser.

A standard feature on Little Giants is the patented Miele honeycomb drum with its sculptured surface which creates a thin film of water on which laundry glides in the washing machine and tiny pockets of air to cushion tumbling laundry in the tumble dryer. On the tumble dryer, differences in the heights of the new SoftLift drum ribs, also available only from Miele, reduce the mechanical strain on laundry. At the same time, differences in rib size ensure good traction and perfect tumbling action. The drum ribs also act as sensors to measure the residual moisture in the laundry to give precise cutoff points. These components are an integral part of Miele's patented, electronic moisture sensing system called PerfectDry which helps reduce electricity consumption and prevents overdrying.

Electricity and water consumption reduced even further

At a maximum spin speed of 1400 rpm, residual moisture in the 'Cottons' programmes is further reduced to 49%. This makes for shorter drying times and thereby reduces electricity bills. New electronic controls which disconnect the machine from the mains supply completely after 15 minutes of a programme ending or after the last user activity reduces standby consumption dramatically. And precise water intake linked to the weight and absorbency of the load cuts water consumption by approx. 10%, further reducing the energy input needed to heat up water.

And, finally, Little Giants feature a switch with which machines can be disconnected from the mains supply at any time. This, like the second pane of glass on the door, serves to protect users. In the event of a power failure, neither the washing machine nor the tumble dryer recommences automatically: programmes are only resumed when a button is pressed. These technical modifications ensure that the new machines are compliant with the new EU Machinery Guideline (2006/42/EG) which came into force at the end of 2009 and regulates the use of machines in commercial environments.
