Pillows, bedding or table linen: A disinfection wash ensures optimum hygiene

Miele laundry machines for old people's homes

(PresseBox) (Gütersloh, ) In old people's homes, a wide range of different textiles need to be ready for use again in next to no time: Heavily soiled kitchen laundry, towels, bedding and counterpanes and often even curtains, duvets and pillows. Miele's range of laundry machines is the ideal choice to meet exacting quality requirements. Thanks to special programmes, for example the 'Disinfection' programme package for thermal and chemothermal processing, washerextractors and tumble dryers for loads of 10 kg to 36 kg can be customised to suit individual requirements.

Miele's own freely programmable Profitronic M controls ensure that all wash programmes are visible in a graphic display. With the aid of the rotary selector switch, the user can choose the most suitable programme and directly modify individual parameters. A machine told before the start of the programme that the load size is only half the full capacity automatically optimises the washing process accordingly to conserve water and energy.

Profitronic M controls feature smart card reader units. A smart card reader is a standard feature on all washerextractors; on tumble dryers it is an optional extra. With the aid of a smart card, new programmes can be downloaded quickly and simply to the machine's controls. Profitronic M controls have 199 programme slots for new programmes.

Thermal and chemothermal disinfection programmes

Miele offers a range of programme packages for old people's homes: For example, one package contains two thermal and two chemothermal disinfection programmes for washerextractors with a load capacity above 10 kg. Thermal disinfection takes place at a temperature of 90°C with a holding time of 10 minutes. Depending on the disinfecting detergent used, chemothermal disinfection is generally carried out at 60°C to 70°C.

Miele's specially developed disinfecting wash programmes achieve the parameters required by the Robert Koch Institute (German federal institute for infectious diseases) in accordance with laundry disinfection guidelines. The prerequisite for this is that during commissioning of machines, disinfection parameters such as temperature, holding time and dispensed quantities are adjusted precisely to the detergent and disinfectant used. Disinfection performance and hygiene standards should also undergo regular checks by suitably qualified persons.

Furthermore, there is a duvet programme which produces thorough and dependable cleaning results and ensures gentle laundry care. Duvets and pillows, whether filled with down or synthetic material, can be machinewashed without the need to remove the filling, and then dried in a tumble dryer for a soft, bouncy finish. These new dryers are particularly suited to bulky laundry items such as duvets as they feature the 'Air Recycling Plus' airflow and temperature control system - patents pending - which optimises the drying process by controlling the proportion of air recycled. This is of particular benefit when reprocessing quilts and duvets with a natural filling of pure new wool, cashmere, camelhair or silk. The special programme for this application features greatly reduced mechanical action and a maximum temperature of 25°C.

In addition, Miele offers programmes with a temperature of 60°C and 90°C for bedding and table linen as well as a special programme for kitchen laundry. Since kitchen laundry may consist of workwear, as well as kitchen towels or cloths, often with particularly stubborn soil, this programme always starts with a 40°C prewash and thermal disinfection at 90°C is performed in the main wash.

Economical: Reduced water consumption

These laundry machines are characterised by low consumption, both in standard and special programmes. The 10 kg PW 6101 washerextractor, for example, requires approximately 17% less water than the previous model.

All machines are equipped with Miele's patented honeycomb drum which ensures that laundry is given the necessary care during both washing and drying. This drum's most striking feature is its sculptured, honeycomb design. In the washing machine, the arched hexagonal sections create a film of water on which laundry glides. During spinning, individual threads are no longer forced through the holes in the drum by centrifugal force. In the tumble dryer, tiny air pockets in the hexagonal sections between laundry and drum cushion laundry during tumbling action. Gentle laundry care has been confirmed in test washes carried out by Germany's WfK Applied Laundry Research Institute in Krefeld. The WfK report also shows that less creasing makes a perfect laundry finish easier.

All washerextractors and tumble dryers can be optimised using additional modules. For example, washerextractors can be fitted with integrated weight sensors which register and display the current load in 200 g increments. This feature ensures that operating costs are automatically reduced in the case of lessthanfull loads. On a 10 kg washerextractor containing only half a load, water consumption can be reduced by more than 20 l compared with a full machine.
