16 kg to 32 kg Miele barrier washer-extractors

Honeycomb drum, dual heating and special programmes for care homes and hospitals

(PresseBox) (Gütersloh, ) A new generation of Miele barrier washerextractors featuring innovative technology is due to set new standards. Models with load capacities of 16, 24 and 32 kg and a broad range of features guarantee convenient and safe operation. Gentle laundry care, low consumption and special programmes for use in care centres and hospitals are centrepieces of Miele innovation. Machines with two electronically interlocking doors for installation in a diaphragm wall separating clean from contaminated operations are ideal for care homes and contract laundries to which work is farmed out. In such cases, infectious or potentially infectious laundry must often be washed according to regulations requiring a barrier setup.

For the first time, washerextractors in this category (models PW 6163, PW 6243 and PW 6323) will feature Miele's patented honeycomb drum. Thanks to its weblike, sculptured surface finish, the drum creates a thin film of water on which laundry glides gently. During spinning, fibres are less likely to be pressed into the drum perforations, guaranteeing gentle laundry care.

All machines from this generation feature safe and simple controls. Once a wash programme has ended, the drum's autopositioning feature aligns the hatch with the clean side and the drum is locked in place: This obviates the need to rotate the drum by hand. Larger openings and an ideal loading height simplify and speed up loading and unloading. The wide door opening angle of 153° offers personnel maximum freedom and space to work.

New 'Hygiene' programme package

Wash programmes are selected from a large display on the contaminated side of the new machines. Two indicators on the clean side provide information on machine status (standard version in octoblue). Machines with stainlesssteel panelling feature a display with easily surveyed text on the clean side.

Profitronic M controls offer 199 programme slots; each barrier machine is fitted ex works with 53 programmes. A standard feature on these machines is the 'Hygiene' programme package for institutional care and hospitals with programmes for sluice laundry and hospital textiles as well as disinfection, bedding and curtain programmes, special cycles for reprocessing mops as well as wetcleaning programmes (WetCare). Programmes are selected from a list using a rotary switch or pushbutton controls. Where appropriate, individual parameters can be modified to suit requirements.

Despite their different dimensions, all three barrier machines are designed to fit through a standard door with a width of 87 cm. With a pallet truck, machines can easily be manoeuvred into position in a diaphragm wall. This saves time and ensures costeffective installation.

Dual heating allows choice of electric or steam heating

The new machines will for the first time feature dual heating, allowing a choice of heating each time a programme is launched. This enables particularly low energy consumption and a high degree of flexibility in everyday working environments. In addition to this, barrier machines are also available separately with indirect steam or electrical heating.

Low residual moisture levels and a high gfactor are the key to reducing energy consumption in the drying cycle that follows. Energy can also be saved by using an optional, integrated weighing system which records the weight of laundry loads in 200 g increments and optimises energy and water consumption. Customers can also choose the most economical dispensing system to meet their onsite needs. Orders for a dispenser compartment for powder detergents or a machine preequipped for liquid detergents are placed up front with the supplier. Both dispensing systems can coexist on one and the same machine.

Connection to an energy management system can save electricity

All three barrier machines can be connected to an existing peakload negotiation system which cuts off the supply to machines to avoid unwanted peaks in energy consumption. Such peaks can occur when other electrical appliances and equipment is run at the same time as laundry machines. Even when the power supply to the machine is cut, Profitronic M controls ensure that disinfection parameters such as temperatures and holding times are met by guaranteeing that the disinfection cycle starts afresh when power is reapplied.

In order to check the energy, water and detergent consumption of washerextractors, all machines are fitted as standard with a module for data acquisition. Furthermore, a software package is available to facilitate process documentation and the evaluation of data. This allows operators to furnish proof that the relevant parameters have been met in disinfection programmes.

An optional communication module provides a serial communication interface. This module is housed in a purposedesigned communication slot. This enables simple data interchange. The interface box also offers the opportunity to connect new modules still to be launched.

Already, a remote service module is available on request able to connect up barrier washerextractors with Miele's central service operation. This allows machine stati to be monitored remotely. Initial troubleshooting can be instigated by backoffice staff able to prepare the service technician for the callout and reduce onsite service times.
