Viking's strategy for the future: ISPO booth and catalog are digitized

Customer self-service via smartphone in the showroom already possible today

(PresseBox) (Leinfelden-Echterdingen, ) Small Norway flags, potted plants and more than 250 rubber boots and casual shoes along bright walls: That‘s what it looks like, the 70 square meter showroom from shoe manufacturer Viking at the MOC Munich. What the visitor doesn‘t see at first glance: The showroom comes with a feature that has it all: Helma Tobies, Managing Director Viking GER/AT, touches the Viking logo of a hiking boot with her smartphone. The image of the shoe lights up promptly on the display. She scrolls down.

Underneath is the tab “Description“: “The Ascent II is a lightweight hiking boot. In the second version of this model, the look and some features, such as the neoprene shaft for the soft entry, changed ...“ The next tab explains the product features “upper“, “lining“, “sole“ and “size“.

NFC tag in the shoe allows customers self-service

“In our showroom we have equipped articles with an NFC tag. Here, we show our retailers how to get all product information directly from their mobile phone. A technology that we will also use at the upcoming ISPO,“ Helma Tobies explains.

The product data for self-service solution is distributed by Viking via the IT platform
loadbee. Here Viking has created a so-called “product profile“ for each of its products. This is a complete and edited collection of all product data such as videos, pictures, texts and download documents. “We have received very positive feedback. With one retailer,
we are already in further discussions. I think next year we‘ll be ready to use loadbee in this retailer‘s brick-and-mortar store,“ says Tobies.

Print catalog is a thing of the past

However, the application area of the product profiles doesn‘t end with the customer self-service solution. In the near future, the comprehensive digital product information should completely replace the print catalog. At the moment Viking shows its new collections to its dealers three times a year in printed copies.

Helma Tobies says: “The advantage of the digital catalog is that we can change it at any time. If there are changes, we can administrate them in real time. Then the retailers really have a catalog which is always uptodate. Articles that are no longer available are simply no longer displayed. In addition, we can present more information: we can better describe the products, enrich the information with videos, go more into detail. This has many advantages for our retailers.“
