One product line – versatile and effective transport solutions
The post sector is generally regarded as an economic indicator. When business is booming, the volume of post handled in the sorting and distribution centres usually increases at the same pace. When the economic situation declines, then postal service providers must be prepared for the amount of post passing through the distribution centres or in downstream delivery services to stagnate, or even drop. In such circumstances, it is essential to react and to remain competitive in a market which is characterized increasingly by large and international postal service providers, and practice has shown that, in recent years, not only staff flexibility and the type of sorting system used have been decisive in tipping the balance but also the cost-efficiency of the type of transport and handling equipment used.
The LKE Group, one of the leading suppliers of transport equipment and one of the major players on the international postal market knows exactly how to adapt to the increasing demands made by the postal sector where high-performing, flexible and versatile transport equipment is essential.
More than 100,000 Ecoflex letter tray trolleys are in use around the world. Developed by LKE, German makers of transport equipment, it is an extremely efficient and versatile means of transporting letter, parcels and other forms of postal matter. It allows a dazzling range of individual variations all within one single product line. No matter whether in the simple design Ecoflex Basic, or the Ecoflex Standard of which thousands are in use worldwide among the major players in the postal sector, or the Ecoflex Motor which is mainly used for in-house post distribution - all of the products in the Ecoflex letter tray trolleys made by LKE provide the same competitive edge i.e. they feature not only LKE-specific loading dimensions but additionally are fitted with skids to ensure safe and rapid loading per fork lift. As the base plates are standardwise made in fully galvanized sheet steel topped by an impact-resistant plastic floor, the LKE group can guarantee under its comprehensive promised performance, and beyond, that the letter tray trolley will cope easily with load capacities of up to 300 kilogrammes, even in daily, continuous operations.
Furthermore, maximum flexibility is provided by the modular design of the floors. "Thanks to state-of-the-art plastics moulding tools, we are able to adapt the size of the cavities in the base floor of our Ecoflex trolley flexibly to hold a variety of letter tray dimensions," explained Marten Büttner, departmental head of LKE Group's Global Mail sector.
The plastic floors and the front of the trolley can be supplied in any desired RAL colour - an additional option which LKE offers to customers who want not only the Ecoflex mail sorting trolley in its basic and dimensions and height but also in a colour matching the respective corporate environment.
Contrary to the Ecoflex Basic, the basic version mainly used in large-scale systems and for in-house transportation purposes, the Ecoflex Standard offers not only an additional pulling handle for easier and ergonomic handling but also a few other safety-relevant and technical features. For example, the standard design, and the Ecoflex Etage with its shelves, are both fitted with a foot-operated central locking device to prevent the mail sorter trolley from tipping over during fork lift operations. Standardwise, several retaining devices are firmly anchored in the floor construction of the trolley to prevent the load from slipping when subjected to possible impacts. Also standard on the letter tray trolley are load restraint straps and clip cards which perfect the technically mature system of product variants Ecoflex Standard and Ecoflex Etage.
"On request, we are, of course, also able to provide our Ecoflex Standard and Ecoflex Etage trolleys with our tried-and proven coupling and drawbar system at any time", said Mr. Büttner, the mail specialist at LKE. "These variants, which we recommend when using our trolleys in inter-company transport, have demonstrably generated significant reductions in cost-intensive stacking operations in larger mail distribution centres where operations are often fast-paced.
When designing the Ecoflex Team - a solution first presented at last year's Post-Expo - the LKE Group had in mind its demanding customers in the postal sector and had been already thinking long in advance on a future-oriented step. To enable postal companies to make the best possible use of the standard 2.40 metres load space height on a truck, the design of the Ecoflex Opti is compatible with truck space height and combines the tried and proven benefits of the Ecoflex Standard- supplemented by a further feature: the plastic Ecoplus lid which allows the space-saving stacking of mail sorting boxes one on top of the other. "Our Ecoflex Opti allows up to 88 trolleys to be packed into a single truck", pointed out Mr. Büttner, the post expert at LKE. "We therefore contribute significantly to an environmentally-friendly transport of post matters and support postal companies such as courier, express and parcel post service providers in reducing their transport costs by more than 30 per cent".
