Imtech is main sponsor of OWee (welcoming week for first year students) at Delft University of Technology

(PresseBox) (Gouda, the Netherlands, ) Imtech N.V. (technical service provider in Europe) has agreed with the governing board of the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft, the Netherlands) to be the main sponsor of OWee, the welcoming week for more than 2,500 first-year students at the university, including the Delft branches of Hogeschool INHolland and Haagse Hogeschool, which takes place from 15 to 19 August 2010.

René van der Bruggen, Imtech CEO, said: 'Imtech has maintained friendly ties with TU Delft for many years. Strategically, Imtech is striving to offer more and more added value. Moreover, Imtech projects are becoming increasingly larger and their technological impact is increasing as well. This is reflected by the composition of our workforce. More and more Imtech personnel have university qualifications in engineering and the number of graduates from TU Delft is growing rapidly. We look upon this as a good development, and this is why Imtech wants to intensify its cooperation with TU Delft across a broader front. Acting as the main sponsor of OWee is part of the pursuit of this goal.'

OWee is the welcoming week organised by the OWee board for all new students in Delft. The week will take place from 15 to 19 August 2010. In all TU Delft expects more than 2,500 first-year students this year. Around 500 mentors (senior students) will also be involved plus some 300 employees (also senior students) who will assist the OWee board in specific activities. The Delft study, sports and leisure associations will also help make this major event a success. Imtech will be presented as the main sponsor to this target group consisting in total of almost 4,000 students, but also to professors and lecturers. The Grote Markt in Delft, where the OWee Info Market is traditionally held, will be kitted out in Imtech blue on 16 August 2010. But Imtech will also be prominently present at other events, including the official start of OWee, the annual Association Day, the Sports and Culture Day, including the 'Cantus' (a traditional singing and beer drinking fest) and also on the concluding Festival. Imtech and TU Delft

Imtech already cooperates intensively with TU Delft. This cooperation goes beyond collaborating in innovative technical developments. Among other things the Imtech UfD fund each year awards five Imtech Grants (2000 euro per grant) to students who have written an excellent final report for their bachelor's degree. Technology, innovation, practicability and social relevance are very important criteria for the grants. One of the initiatives recognised by Imtech UfD is The Ubuntu Company in South Africa. At this company 75 former unemployed persons from the townships produce trendy designer slippers (called 'plakkies') for the European market. These slippers are made from discarded car tyres that were previously dumped in the countryside. The 'plakkies' promote the environment, welfare and children's projects in South Africa. Imtech supported this TU Delft initiative as part of its corporate social responsibility policy. Various Imtech employees were sent out to examine the best relationship between the used technologies and the deployment of employees. The outcome is that with only eight extra employees and a different organisation of the work process it is possible to produce several thousand extra 'plakkies'. Additionally, Imtech is developing a machine for cutting out the slipper soles from the car tyres to give each slipper a recognisable, unique footprint. Imtech and TU Delft are also represented in theGROUNDS, the premier platform and the experimental garden of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol where companies and knowledge institutions jointly develop innovative applications for sustainable aviation. Imtech is participating with third parties in the Icos Cleantech Fund I, a fund that develops highly promising technologies. The focus is on energy, waste and food. The fund makes it possible to market initiatives and ideas that are 'born' at TU Delft and elsewhere. In this way Imtech enables enterprising TU Delft students to experience real-life entrepreneurship.
