Cutting-edge technology meets industry

(PresseBox) (Bonn, ) Forwardlooking alliances between startups and industrial companies initiated - Around 200 highcalibre guests from business, government and the media today made their appearance at the first High-Tech Partnering Conference in Bonn. More than 50 young portfolio companies of the High-Tech Gründerfonds will be presenting their concepts for success exclusively in front of a large number of representatives from industry. The high level of interest shown by industry in technological highlights gives evidence of a positive economic turnaround as well as proving that demand for hightech booms particularly in economically challenging times.

Key note speakers such as Ernst Burgbacher, Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Minister for Business and Technology; René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom AG; Dr. Klaus Dieterich, Management Board member of Robert Bosch GmbH; and Prof. Dieter Jahn, responsible for science relations and innovation management at BASF SE have all given a warm welcome to the High-Tech Gründerfonds initiative, i.e. to establish a technology conference with a view to promoting collaboration between industry and young technology firms in Germany.

Michael Brandkamp, Managing Director of High-Tech Gründerfonds, can easily believe that industry's interest in young technology firms is growing: "Spring has now also arrived in business. There are clear indications to suggest that demand for innovation is returning. Tendigit sums are being invested in the research landscape. We must succeed in translating all this fantastic potential into commercial applications. Among German SMEs and large industrial groups there are many excellently managed and successful businesses which point the way in their market segment and which seek to expand their innovation potential in a targeted manner. The aim of our partnering conference is to give our portfolio companies access to industrial alliances and to offer established businesses cuttingedge technology at first hand."

Positive signals for industrial investors

The fund's industrial investors can already draw benefit from an involvement in High-Tech Gründerfonds. As Prof. Dr. Dieter Jahn, Senior Vice President of Science Relations and Innovation Management at BASF SE, stresses, "We gain an insight into the extensive Gründerfonds portfolio and obtain rapid access to new technological developments and innovative business ideas." This opens up interesting opportunities for industrial partners to acquire a stake in startups funded by High-Tech Gründerfonds as well as the potential for other forms of alliance, such as joint development projects, technology transfer or client/supplier relationships.

Several collaboration models create a win/win situation for industrial partners and young technology firms. The next High-Tech Partnering Conference is scheduled for the spring of 2011.
