Quality just a click away

Hexagon Metrology focuses on automated 3D metrology at Control 2013 / The specialist trade fair for quality assurance takes place from 14th to 17th May in Stuttgart, Germany

(PresseBox) (Wetzlar, ) A major part of the 500 square metres Hexagon Metrology stand at the Control trade fair is devoted entirely to automation in metrology. Automated metrology has many facets. Coordinate measuring machines with computer controls are already used, for example, on a broad basis. However, in-process robot-assisted measuring also proves worthwhile in several types of application. The objectives of partially or fully automated metrology are, for example, to minimise operating costs, increase throughput and product quality, generate sound measurement results or create better opportunities for lean production.

At Control, Hexagon Metrology is exhibiting two automatic measuring cells that bring robotics and metrology into close integration. In conjunction with a sensor, for example the Leica T-Mac, attached to a robot, the Leica Absolute Tracker AT901 becomes the heart of a fully automatic coordinate measuring system for large parts. The cargo compartment component for the Airbus A400 on show at Control is an example of this. Also on the stand is the fully automatic 3D white light measuring system WLS400A, an optical high-speed measuring system for production-floor use. Difficult environmental conditions, such as strong light or vibrations, have no effect on the quality of the measurement results with this system. At Control, Hexagon Metrology displays the capabilities of the system with a rotary table configuration for series measurement, for example of body shell components.

In addition to robot-aided measuring systems, a number of traditional stationary CNC coordinate measuring machines are also presented on the Hexagon Metrology stand, including two ultra-high accuracy measuring machines, the Leitz Reference Xe and the Leitz PMM-Xi. With their good price-performance ratio, they are particularly suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises that are required to measure parts highly accurately. Hexagon Metrology demonstrates the automated loading and unloading of parts on a measuring machine by robots with the universal 3D coordinate measuring machine DEA GLOBAL Silver. The Optiv line from Hexagon Metrology represents a new compact entry-level machine. Typical for this series of optical and multi-sensor measuring machines for precision parts is the new Optiv Classic 322, which has a Vision-sensor fitted as standard. Available as an option are touch-trigger TESASTAR probes, which provide full multi-sensor functionality.

With the ROMER Absolute Arm in various sizes and configurations - among other things with laser scanners - Hexagon Metrology is displaying hand-guided measurement at Control. The measuring arms do not have to be referenced before measuring, therefore the user can start measuring immediately after switching on the device. The laser scanner is fully integrated into the arm. This allows the ROMER Absolute Arm to be certified as a complete system in accordance with international standards and codes of practice such as VDI/VDE. From the area of portable measuring machines, the Leica Absolute Tracker AT402, a compact 3D laser tracker, together with the SpatialAnalyzer software program, form an efficient package for the measurement of large-volume parts. In the field of manual measuring methods, TESA, which is part of Hexagon Metrology, is exhibiting the TLC-TWIN transceiver. It transfers measurement data wirelessly from the TWIN-CAL IP67 electronic caliper to a receiver connected to the computer.

Visitors to the Stuttgart trade fair from 14th to 17th May can find out more about this wide range of partially and fully automated measuring systems on Stand 5302 in Hall 5.
