Highlyfilled graphite compounds for fuel cells, batteries and heat exchangers
Fakuma 2012: Ensinger to showcase new materials
Ensinger produces PP‐ and PPS‐based highly conductive compounds for bipolar plates used as media supply plates in fuel cells. Producing these components on injection moulding machines offers cost benefits as a result of shorter cycle times. The material can also be processed by hot pressing. The new compounds, which offer the benefit of good electrical conductivity, are suitable both for high‐temperature and low‐temperature fuel cells (HT‐PEM and NT‐PEM).
Other potential applications include use as separator plates in redox flow batteries. Their excellent thermal conductivity makes these materials equally suited for manufacturing corrosion resistant heat exchangers for industrial applications and heat sinks for use in power electronics.
The Ensinger Group is engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of compounds, semi‐finished materials, profiles and technical parts made of engineering and high performance plastics through extrusion, machining and injection moulding. With a total of 2,000 employees at 27 locations, the familyowned enterprise is represented worldwide in all major industrial regions with manufacturing facilities or sales offices.
Ensinger Compounds is a division of HP Polymer GmbH and supplies to sectors such as the automotive engineering industry, foodstuffs technology, machine and apparatus construction, and the aerospace and electrical engineering industries. The company runs one of Europe's most up‐to‐date and flexible compounding operations. Completed in 2009, its factory also offers facility for cleanroom production. Its products are marketed under the trade name TECACOMP®.
